Campaigns?

By Skylark2, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I'm thinking of taking out my old "Enemy Within" campaign and play it once more.

Now in order to do something fun I am thinking of buying the new 3rd edition and convert the adventure over.

I'm not overly worried about converting the adventure stats and character classes etc.

What I am concerned with is that new careers will not be long enough to last out the campaign, that is to say that the player will maxe everything out longbefore we get to the end of the campaign. So i guess my question is with the current 3rd stuff avalabel can you play camping as long as you would getting players in 1st edition up 4th level wizard etc?

Or is this system designed just for short adventures with no long term advancements?

Currently the system has only given two levels of wizard and priest, so for a campaign of TEW's length, you'd probably be pushed to use 3rd ed careers without some home brew tweaking.

Most other careers provided are of the basic variety BUT progression in 3rd ed (except for those careers noted above and a few other niche careers like troll slayer and zealot) seem to be of the horizontal rather than vertical variety anyway.

I do think you players would begin to crave some advancement options that aren't in the current products if you entended player the entire TEW, but obviously new material will be released, and FFGs release schedule seems relatively rapid, so you could probably start the campaign safe in the knowledge that further expansions will be released in time given the players the right advanced options.

I would think there is enough material to at least get PCs into DoTR, but after that you might struggle?

The Wiard epxansion is due very shortly though, so that should handle any wizard progression issues you might face. There is no sign of a priest expansion yet, but if push came to shove i bet you could convert some of the wizard expansion material into priest expansion material if you were really desperate.

I think the bottom line depends on how regularly your group plays and how quickly you think they'll progress through TEW.

You know you can control the speed of advancement, right? You can just give less XP.

But if you do want your PCs to keep growing, but you run out of careers too soon, the obvious solution is to allow players to stay in the same career for longer than 10 advances. If you also increase your characteristics, you can get about 20 career-advances from each career.

In the Gamemasters forum here, there are a few threads allready about people running TEW. You may well find you answers there already, or at least people who should be able to give you good answers.
