Mandalorian Armor Question

By Setukh, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I just picked up Collapse of the Republic at my FLGS and as I was reading through I noticed an oddity which I'm not 100% sure if it is an error or intentional, did a quick search of the forums and saw it hadn't been mentioned by anyone else so I figured I'd ask:

So Mandalorian Armor is listed in the book as including an integrated comlink and being vacuum sealed, which is awesome and saves on a couple hard points down the road. However, I noticed that the book lists all the Mandalorian melee weapons as being forged from or enhanced with Beskar and all of them have the Cortosis Quality. So my curiosity leads to my question of whether Mandalorian Armor (which based on descriptions in the various books sounds like it's made of Beskar but notably never outright says it is) should have the Cortosis Quality by default as well?

Because of balance concerns, no. They definitely didn't intend for it to have Cortosis.

Because of the price, it is only a little bit more expensive than a Beskad, so giving it the Cortosis quality wouldn't make sense from a price point perspective.

As a result of these reasons, and that the book says nothing about it being Beskar, I'm pretty sure that it isn't Beskar.

However, I like to say that it is Beskar, so I simply say that you can get it reinforced and purified to add the Cortosis quality (using the Cortosis Armor Attachment).

All of this information is based on the CotR book.

One of the Mandalorian NPCs in Friends like these has Beskar armor and it does have the cortosis quality. So if the ones in collapse of the republic don’t then it’s intentional.

In the book "No Disintegration", description of the Mando armor says it is often fitted with the vacuum seal customization and the Cortosis upgrade, so it is obviously both upgrades that should be counted toward the slot numbers, none of them are free according to this book. The exemple of the novice hunter Mando armor does not have the vacuum seal upgrade btw

Not by default, as there's no indication that all Mando armor is made of beskar, or at least enough of the metal to warrant imparting the Cortosis quality.

It's something that can be added later on as an upgrade, much like how the Mandalorian in the TV series of the same name gradually upgrades his armor from using regular materials to beskar plating.

I asked the developers about the inclusion of the vacuum sealed and comlink as standard parts in Collapse of the Republic and not in No Disintegration’s. The response I got was that this is exclusive to Mandalorian armor of the period covered in CoR. It is not an error, nor does it completely replace the stats in ND. He did say you could use the CoR stats in place of the ND stats if the GM wants to however. If I were to guess, I would say the reason why the Mandalorian armor in CoR has those two attachments built in, instead of taking up hard points, is because they represent the armor worn on Mandalore itself by the Mandalorian people, and that these are necessary for survival on that planet given the harsh conditions there.
