Massachusetts Prime Event 12/14/19

By Thrindal, in Star Wars: Armada Organized Play

https://www.facebook.com/events/558066644984378/

This event is sponsored by Toy's N Things of Danvers Massachusetts but the event will occur at the Best Western Hotel in Woburn Massachusetts.

I highly suggest pre-registration to lock in your spot.

I will be the TO for this event, to be clear, I am not a Toy's employee. I am an Armada player and enthusiast and am volunteering to TO this event. I have TO'ed many events in the past including Regionals in Derry New Hampshire last year. I will not be compensated in any way other than the designated TO share of the prize kit. Please keep this in mind when asking questions about the event. My one and only goal for the event is to put on the best Prime event as possible and do what I can to ensure everyone has a good time.

Players should bring 3 copys of their tournament list including your name and objectives. One list will be for your opponents, this copy does not have to include your objectives. One copy will be for me and will not be returned. The third copy is for your own records and as a backup. Printed copies are prefered but hand written copies will be accepted.

For players traveling some distance to the event please mention the event if booking at the Best Western.

I have play mats for 8 tables, if you have play mats please bring them to the event and notify me that you have them when you arrive. I will let you know if they will be needed.

I will likely bring a list, for the sole purpose of in the event of the need for Bye's I will offer to play the player with the bye if they wish but my primary responsibilty will be my TO duties which would likely interupt these casual games if played.

To reiterate, if you intend to attend this event I highly recommend pre-registering. As I get updates from the owner on pre-registrations I will post those here.

Edited by Thrindal

Hoping to carpool at least 3 or 4 people down from the Concord, NH crowd. Once we get numbers confirmed I'll get everyone to prereg.

Thanks again for TO'ing Thrindal!

Just a reminder that the store owner would prefer folks pre-register for this event. This is not required and I have tried to explain that folks often want to wait to register.

Currently there is plenty of room available and I will post if that were to change.

Also as a reminder, this event will be held in a Hotel Function room. This may make it easier for folks that need to come from some distance away to find lodging. Because we are about the only Prime in the North Eastern U.S. we would like to invite folks to come. In fact I hope we may get some folks from New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania along with all 6 New England states and possibly even Canada.

If you have any questions please let me know, especially if those questions refer to the tournament itself. If the questions refer to registration you may want to contact the store.

I just put through the pre-registration for the wife and I. See everyone in a couple of weeks.

Lists incomming, Quick breakdown...

Unfortunately there were only 12 players, down from 23 last year. There were some extenuating circumstances as to why that I won't go into here but while I was the TO for both events the host stores were different. That said everything went as smoothly as could have been expected despite some folks concerns going in. The tournament was hosted at a local Hotel and not in store, as the TO I was given 100% authority over the prize kit which included opening the shipping box.

The only snafu which I think other early tournaments will have is FFG only included 4 of the 9 Squadron cards that were supposed to be in the kit and now the Store owner has to deal with distributing the others although I probably won't have him mail the TO copy out to me, I didn't find the card all that impressive anyway.

Our winner however flew in all the way from Houston TX just for the tournament. So a big thanks for coming and congratulations to Jason H.!

To wrap up, I do wish turnout had been better but again there were extenuating circumstances which I understand and will leave it at that.

Very diverse Rebel lists, not so much for the Imperials. We only had 4 Imperial lists, all 4 flew Jerjerrod and 3/4 flew very similar SSD lists and one of them won the tournament. We had no ISD, Quasar, Gladiator, or Interdictor. If I had been able to play as TO I would have likely had an ISD list to round things out a little. All Rebel Ships were present.

I will be sending some feedback to FFG OP (not sure if they read feedback or not) as I do think a lot was left to be desired in terms of store choice, not just for Armada but other games as well. My personal opinion is that Prime/Regional level events should be reserved for Stores with an active community playing the game in question. A Prime/Regional championship should not be used for Stores trying to grow a community. That is what Store Championships are for, lets hope we get back to a Store Championship level tournament in 2020.

As always @Thrindal thanks for running a great event! We had a great time and can't wait to see everyone at the next local tourney. Your new fleet looks too good painted up not the hit the table next time.

Also, I was only one point shy of 4th?!?

Thanks,

Its aways tough not playing, especially in this case because there are no other remotely local Prime/Regional tournaments that are options. Its either drive 6-7 hours to Quebec or 8 hours to Virginia (One way). So I am going to totally miss out playing in a Regional this year. Overall I prefer a strong community so when asked to TO I do and if I set up a tournament obviously I will TO but chances are I can play in those.

Hopefully I will get a game or two in this weekend and we will hopefully have a Tournament in Saugus in January and I plan to have one in Derry NH in February. I am just waiting on the Saugus date.

Always fun to get folks out to play!
