Where are you guys? Highland is out.

By burst2, in Talisman

I was wondering about something..

what are the experiences from people with using the Highland board.

Is it really usefull to go there, even if you can get a chance on the Arnkell Relic card

The dungeon is still the region where you can level up fast.

Or is it maybe usefull for craft based characters?

Do you people use the highland board a lot?

I was just curious about ithappy.gif

Arnkell is the best possible relict card, because it gives you ability to teleport in the inner region. Even if you don't need it, you don't want any opponent to have it because they may steal the win from you.

Highlands give you ability to teleport to the middle region (especially if you are craft character because you can kill eagle boss using craft and sentinel str9 is much much hard for you) or to teleport on top of any character to attack it. This is the most important feature.

Those 3 reasons are enough to make us going to this region every game. Mind you, not everyone goes there but 1-2 characters will always go, kill eagle boss, teleport to attack someone, teleport to middle region etc.

A few more items:

- Highlands are easier than dungeon when your stats are around 3-4-5 since you should be able to win most fights while in the dungeon you would be slaughtered

- Higlands are way more dangerous than dungeon when your stats are around 8-9-10. It has many nasty strangers, events while in dungeon nobody can kill you once you are powerful enough.

- Good characters get waterfall and only possible place to score fate point, which is important since for some ending like hand of doom you don't want to go without fate available

- There is plenty of gold there. Even without sacred pool, we have sometimes problem with finding gold, it does not happen often but sometimes a character is broke so he goes to highland to find some money. When i will get sacred pool, I suspect that the gold will be more valuable asset since there are no gold cards in sacred pool and there are more ways to spend it (stables). So gold hunting in highland may be more popular.

I know about arnkell, it's the most important point to travel to the Highland.

I agree that you don;t want to give your opponent a chance to get the arknell card..

True. So craft based characters should go there as soon if they strength is around 3/ or 5?

The problem is that you can find lots of objects instead of building yourself up. that is how i feel about it.

That;s why i was asking the question in the first placehappy.gif

That's a good point. Every character can drink from the waterfall, but good characters can replenish some fate there indeedgui%C3%B1o.gif

My opinion is that this relic is kinda lame. Moreover that it is an object and you have to something what you already have, and then for only ONE use you have to ditch all your followers, and if there is mule or warhorse, or horse with cart - so you stay with only 3 objects (since that one will be used already). I think such teleportation doesn't worth it. There are other ways to teleport, or go faster with riding horse. So I never take this relic, always it.

Not on the Inner Region, which is where you're looking to go to win. 1 turn Inner Region vs minimum of 5 turns otherwise. Especially if someone is already in the Inner Region and making their way to the CoC, you can outrush them with the Arnkell. Several endings end the game the moment someone reaches the CoC, so without Arnkell, your chances of losing in this situation are high.

We often go there early to grab a bit of gold and then head for the village to buy a sword. +1 strength is good.

As far as concerns arnkell, this is not a reliable tactic and can otherwise slow you down. But if you are sufficiently behind this is the best chance you have to pull ahead.

I agree, it makes sense when there are many players and you are already powerful enough even without your objects and magic objects and followers and there is only the question of speed, it never happened in our games though.

Since Relics from Eagle King are random (well, so are Treasures in Dungeon since we use that variant from the rules), it's not the best bet to make it your goal right from the start. But if you're hitting the Highlands board and get up in stats, getting close to the Eyrie, no reason not to defeat the EK if you have a shot. Might earn you Arnkell, in which case, you don't even need a Talisman, just need come out to the Portal of Power, next turn -> Inner Region, following that -> CoC.
