Definitely. I just wanted to make sure people were aware that this might not get the tournament attention some might expect.

I am sure the bigger tournaments can handle the space and table requirements for 800pt games. There are a lot of stores that just can't. Most of these game stores are set up for magic, since that is the main stay. Having a few miniature tables all the way in the back doesn't give them much to work with. X-wing does well in part because it only needs 3x3 and is a small quick game. FFG has to try to get Legion into more of the smaller stores. I am not sure it will work but they have to try. Even the bigger stores may prefer to run the 500pt tournaments so all their gaming space isn't monopolized by Legion for the full day.

Some of them are, but there are about 2 per category that could be interesting. Elimination by itself just seems amazing, as it would simultaneously offer buffs to vehicles and low-activation count armies, while hurting units like strike teams. It's something I've seen people ask for, for nearly a year now, and it's been added to a subformat, and not the main game. Besides that, Control, War Weary, Improvised Defenses, and Face off are all different and I would love to see them in 800 point games.

I don't think elimination would hurt MSU the way people some people think it would. It certainly hasn't in other wargames. And I don't think Face Off would work on a rectangular board; at least, not as a semi-circle. War Weary, Control and Improvised defenses do look interesting, though.

I am sure there is interest in both formats, maybe not physical space, but interest.

Definitely. I just wanted to make sure people were aware that this might not get the tournament attention some might expect.

I am interested going forward how much love this skirmish mode will get. At best they make both formats equal with units being balanced in both versions and strong pro scene for both. Like shores being the broken thing that they are in 800pt games, but snowtroopers being the meta at 500. Really could be a smart way to allow a lot more play options for everyone.

This right here. Legion is a very large investment in time and space. The 5th trooper did a skirmish game and it lasted only an hour. Games I play get closer to 3!! The fact that I could play a Legion game in the same time as an X-wing is crazy!

Also just messing around I found 500pts allows a lot of flexibility with what a person can take in a list. Now I need to play the mode to see if it feels good.

I'm far more interested in the new Battle Cards than the format, which probably adds to the disappointment. The new cards look cool, and the actual, regular, 800 point format really needs more battle cards, for both casual and competitive play, but instead, that support goes to a casual format and can't be applied to regular play.

At worse skirmish is a half-heated attempt to make Legion more playable to a broader audience. The new battle cards will then be wasted on a mode FFG had no real intention of putting effort into. I sort of feel like this is the case, but I like to think I am wrong here.

500 point format all the way.

My friends and I have been playing this format since getting into Legion. Getting to play 2-3 games against multiple opponents in the time it takes to play ONE standard Legion game against one person is a huge bonus. It's faster, easier to show new players, and you can try out unit combinations you wouldn't normally use because...meta.

Happy to see it's official now.

500 points doesn't interest me at all. All rather uninteresting.

500 not for me

500p is PERFECT for newcomers. It's clearly a move to bring more people in. Also, it helps tourneys to be faster and have more games per day (if they adopt this).

In fact, some tourneys could do this: first day, only 500p games. The best 4-8 guys move to second day, when games become 800p

It's got its good points but if 500 points had been standard about half the units in the game would be effectively Epic-only units.
