so during the live stream i went ahead and ask about smoke tokens and of course multiple smoke tokens
Per Alex Davy " Smoke tokens give you cover 1 full stop. so if your in a set of woods with smoke you wouldn't improve your cover." "the only thing that improves your cover is suppression."

so unlike what the rules where it improves your cover by 1. it gives cover 1 (light cover) not improves it.

yeah kinda sucks that they only give light cover now. not worth it anymore

Is there any chance he misspoke? Sometimes they don't remember the rules correctly, which isn't surprising since they playtest so many different versions.

This would not surprise me, since it contradicts what the RRG says, and it not stacking with other cover would be completely counter-intuitive.

I believe the statement was in reference to the game type. The implication being that cover works differently in the 500pt version than the 800pt version.

Cover works the same according to the Skirmish rule PDF.

I caught that and all I could think of was "wow, you really don't want us to take smoke grenades, do you?"

So, am I missing something here?

No, apparently the correct rule is always the opposite of what they say during live streams 😁

yeah i'm giving up on rule clarification during live stream. to much flipping back and forth for this.

They directly changed their stated rulings on a lot of issues, at least this one is an improvement.

Cost of an action, + needing to activate early in the round.... as much as I don't often agree with red, he's close enough on right.

Situational need based on play board, the amount of cover work arounds and the drawbacks combine to make them about as useful as grappling hooks or enviro gear imo.

Edit: I'll caveat that with maybe droids as an exception, cos b1's need all the defensive help they can get (assuming they get a unit that can carry em)

I don't like that it gives cover to what you're shooting at if you're within range of the smoke token. I'm paying points for this mobile cover and there's a drawback? Meh....

Also, it's quite expensive and costs an action. I would rather it be a free action with exhaust and cost 5 points.

The problem is that you need the entire squad to be within the radius of the smoke token (which could be difficult with a large B1 squad) to claim it's bonus. Also, CIS doesn't have access to grenades atm.
