Considering how the PLS line we've heard so far is mostly promising an afterlife paradise (rather than the cycle of reincarnation) and blaming the sins of the era for the troubles the Empire is enduring, I get the feeling they're a Kolat brainchild that's either about to slip its leash or already has.

Quite possibly - though with the sideline that Shinsei reborn was always 'a thing' associated with the next Day of Thunder.

Whether the Perfect Land Sect is unaware of this part of the supposed course of events, is and using and abusing it, or is actually trying to bring it about (or even going to bring it about despite original intentions of just causing social trouble for the Kolat to play around with) is still to be seen...

And certainly, any respect they have for the Celestial Order is refracted through a theology that isn't quite in line with the accepted order of things.

No argument there.

You mean like the Realm of Blessed Ancestors?

I'm not sure what to make of the perfect land "movement".

Are their teachings the movement, or was a social movement born on these principles?

Is there peasant agitation and social upheaval because of their principles or are their principles successful because there was already discontentment from the lower classes.

Let's not forget the case of samurai poverty. While high ranking samurai may live in opulence, there are probably tens of thousands ji samurai owning but a piece of land who are hard pressed to pay taxes.

Doesn't need much for someone to start wearing a yellow haori :) (yes, I'm French...)

It feels that maybe the perfect land storyline is mostly brewing a peasant revolt, born on religious teaching but fueled by peasant anger. Like the Ikko Ikki of the Sengoku era.

It feels actually that FFG story team is well insisting on lots of early Sengoku Jidai era inspired elements in the story, with a brewing succession war (like the Onin War, which destroyed Kyoto as we have been told Otosan Uchi will be) , intra-Clan infighting, strife in the capital, vassals rebelling against their daimyo, rampant wako piratry and the Tsunami can certainly be a parallel to the floods that led to the Kansho famine and impoverishment that bred the Onin war.

So maybe the perfect land is just that, a rokugani manifestation of the Sengoku Ikko Ikki, who were greatly influenced by Pure Land sect teachings.

But newer, slicker, without all that bothersome reincarnating to sufficiently awesome selves. Your own bad (lame) self can get there without all that rot! TRUST US, WOULD WE LIE?!

quick question, where exactly in FFG website is this article located?

If you go to the L5R product page there is a section in the drop downs near the bottom of the page for fictions where they are sorted by the product set they are grouped with (so by cycle, clan packs etc.)

yeah was trying to look for it though normally they would announce it on the right side either on the L5R or L5R roleplaying pages as well.

And I still dont see this on the Fiction areas.
