Poll: Thoughts on Epic (now that you've played)

You don't have any Punishers? That'd be a third Trajectory Sim option if you do.

Ah, punishers! That's what I was missing. Thanks!

edit: System + Payload includes tie punisher, mg-100 star fortress, scurrg (limit 1), and scum Aggressors. Most of these are big investments. So there won't be an overwhelming amount of trajectory sims, but I wanna try it.

If you really want to use bombs then GA-97 and a cobalt squadron bomber with TS is killer.

Okay I’m about a dozen games in now. The CR90 is a BOSS. It might need some adjustment to points or some of its high-synergy pieces might need to be adjusted.

May I ask what loadout(s) you are seeing perform well?

I thought Seer swarm was bad with just 6-7 vultures, last night I flew it with 12! 2 full wings of vultures and my opponent's Tantive went down in 2 turns. It was a beast to take down though.

Epic is loads of fun and I'm looking forward to trying it again soon.

Going to have to try this out

Targeting battery, Turbolaser, bombardment specialists.

That’s already a solid killer. Add in Optimized power core, tibanna gas, perceptive copilot or Saw to put it over the top. Also important to use Roark/Biggs whenever possible.

Stalwart Captain is also just stapled to every epic ship imo.

Also point defense battery is a blast with a couple perceptive copilots if you want a lighter build that can chew up a swarm.

We just finished our first foray into the new Epic. And it was pretty darn great I gotta say. I'm going to have a lot of questions and some overall balance concerns in time, but want a few more battles to really nail them down.

Wings were freaking great, but also one of my balance concerns.

Huge ships felt great, but will take a bit of practice. What doesn't though right?

Scenarios look great, but the one we played (fortified position) felt a little imbalanced as an initial assessment. Needs another go.

I'm looking forward to many games in the near future.

I have a feeling he'll be one of the most overlooked upgrades because of similarities to Fel's Wrath

Difference being this "Fel's Wrath" is a 3+ attack uber monster that can fire beyond range 3 and can cost over 200 points. Assurances of it firing on the turn it dies (especially given I 0-1 pewpew) is priceless

CR90 should ram that swarm and then open up with PDBs.

It did, and killed 3 vultures with the ram. The remaining vultures were able to init kill it before it could unleash its firepower.

Stalwart Captain/Raymus Antilles. The best 6/12 points a list with huge ships can spend.

Have to say I'm glad my opponent didn't think of that (or forgot he had it on there)

If I'm running a Rebel CR-90, I have a pretty hard time not putting either Roark or Swarm Tactics Fenn Rau in the list as well in order to engage at IN6 or IN7. That basically negates the need for Stalwart or Raymus. It also allows me to justify a Hotshot Gunner on my ship for token-stripping hilarity.

Swarm Tactics doesn't work with huge ships because although it changes their initiative, they don't reference initiative for engagement - they reference their engagement value.

Roark may be in the same boat, but RAW I think it can be argued either way, so we'll need a FAQ.

Yes, but Stalwart is MUCH cheaper 😛

Also, I REALLY want to see a Point Defense Battery thunderstrike, if only for the one GLORIOUS round of ACDC

THUNDERSTRUCK

(146) Alderaanian Guard [CR90 Corellian Corvette]
(6) Optimized Power Core
(6) Stalwart Captain
(5) Nien Nunb
(9) Saw Gerrera
(10) Point Defense Battery
(9) Targeting Battery
(3) Damage Control Team
(6) Bombardment Specialists
(4) Thunderstrike
Points: 204

(32) AP-5 [Sheathipede-class Shuttle]
(6) Leia Organa
Points: 38

(48) Biggs Darklighter [T-65 X-wing]
(0) Servomotor S-foils
Points: 48

Total points: 290

Season to taste

EDIT: use sensor experts instead of one of the teams

Multiple long range locks can set up an EPIC thunderstrike (and let you "stack" rerolls against the same target!)

The CR-90 only has two crew slots unless you're running the Tantive-IV title, so you'd need to remove one of either Stalwart, Nien or Saw. I'm thinking Saw probably gets the chop in that build, with the points saved going to replace the Bombardment Specialists with a Sensor Team.

Ack, it's command + crew. That's rough :(

saw was gonna be so much fun with all those attacks too...

Just run Tantive IV. Saw is really good on huge ships.

Can't; Thunderstrike is superior

because Tantive IV is worthless as an ACDC reference

Question: how do hardpoint turret weapons interact with vet gunners and the like?

Short answer: they don't.

danke!

So, the unfortunate lack of non-turret rebel gunners make the extra Thunderstrike gunner slot kinda..bleh

dangit, I need to make these THUNDERSTRUCK!!! moments happen!

might have to ditch Nien for maximum meme status. Saw too crucial for the hilarity of the Thunderstrike turn

Put Thunderstrike on the mat twice. Not disappointed with empty gunner chairs. Was much more happy with the 4 points the second game when I knew that the hardpoints could fire before the primary, so a targeting battery could get a re-roll on a fighter, get a lock for the primary gun and the third shot from the ion battery would get a re-roll on some other target.

  • Agile gunner might be if the fight gets too close, otherwise I'm good with empty seats.
  • Magva Yarro crew seems pretty solid too, particularly if you can spare the points for a sensor team and maintain a stack of locks. Skip Thunderstike with this combo, I think.

I’ve been using hotshot gunner, but now that I realize Roark doesn’t work I don’t think that Thunderstrike title is worth it at all.

🤨 Try Han Gunner paired with Hotshot Gunner. It doesn't strip as many tokens as the Roark + Hotshot combo would have, had it been legal, but it is still an I7 token strip from a nasty ship.

I’ve run that, but it’s soooo many points that go to waste against many epic lists.

??? Han Gunner is just over 1/3rd the price of a bare Roark. Since you probably have Moldy on Roark that is a minimum of 41 points you can invest elsewhere in your list by taking Han Gunner + Thunderstrike (assuming you already were taking Hotshot on the CR-90) instead of taking Roark.
