Novice GM needs Assistance

plot hook away but have you considered that with an astropath throwing around that sort of warp energy forget the inquisition main due to the red tape but they are dogged but personally i would say there are always more eyes watching psykers movements from the warp he may ahve just picked up a demon stalker ;)

I'm sorry for digging up such an old thread, but I find this discussion very interesting, particularly since I'm currently reading the first Ravenor book, which has a considerable amount of focus on rogue traders.

Ravenor himself voices his thoughts about his relationship with rogue traders at one point. He interrogates a rogue trader and finds evidence of all kinds of illegal activites, such as smuggling narcotics, using forbidden weaponry (some of it ship-mounted), employing and harboring fugitives from the law (wanted for murder), and so on. Ravenor chooses to ignore these things since he realizes that if he went after rogue traders for every little infraction they did, he'd end up doing nothing else and would lose focus on his greater purpose, eventually leading him to fail in his mission. He also points out that being a rogue trader puts you in a unique situation and demands a certain personality, so that even the best of the rogue traders could be found guilty of bending the law if someone decided to dig for dirt.

If an inquisitor had nothing else to do (which is unlikely. They tend to stay busy), it's quite possible they might go after an astropath showing signs of public heresy. Most likely they'd just make a mental note of the event and ignore it until it potentially grew into something more than a one-time thing, at which point they might launch a full-scale investigation into the astropath and the crew on board his ship, including the rogue trader himself.

So in conclusion, if I was the GM in this situation I would just make a note that the inquisition will become aware of what happened, but nothing else would come of it unless the player got really reckless in public several more times.
