With Starhawk and Onager on the boat and scheduled be in stores by the end of the year, Clone Wars content can't be very far out, especially since FFG stated they would be accelerating the rate at which waves are released, something we've already started to see with the official Wave VIII after the release of the SSD. I would anticipate we get our announcement sometime in early March given how they would want some time to have the ships of Wave VIII in the limelight. If the announcement is in March, I would bet on a summer release because of the fact that Clone Wars Season 7 is scheduled to be released right around the same time, so the tie-in would be well set-up. I do want them to release a new core set for Clone Wars, but in all honesty I would actually be happy if they did something similar to X-Wing, where they release package sets of Republic and Separatist ships. What do you guys think?
Expectations for Clone Wars?

No. FFG already announced Armada Clone Wars will be coming at the end of 2020. Probably in time for the holidays.
Edited by LordColaThe accelerated release schedule is for early Clone Wars waves, not the initial wave or core set. Their plan is for the first Clone Wars stuff to come out Q4 2020, but then we might see a wave or two of expansions within the nine months.
So probably not enough for either of the new factions to be competitive in 2020-21 Primes (if they happen), but we might see some at Worlds 2021.
What I would like for all Clone Wars ships is a slightly weaker or rundown version of the ship that can be used with Imps/Rebels. The trailer shots from TROS show some of these older ships, so it is certainly clear that they are still in use past the Rebellion era. This would, I hope, bring even more variety into fleet builds for Armada.
What are people guessing will come in the clone war core set?

Depends on who gets the medium and who gets the smalls. If the Separatists get the medium and the Republic gets the smalls than I would say Munificent for the Seps, and a Consular class and Pelta/Arq for the Republic. If Republic gets the medium I would guess Acclamator and for the Seps a Diamond class cruiser and a Hardcell class transport.
I would guess we will get an official announcement with some images at Adepticon, then a small chance there is a pre-release at Gencon with general release early Q4.
That is the most optimistic time line. It may be announcement at Adepticon with images, Models on display at Gencon, then release late Q4.
I am absolutely sure at this point that we will get a Core set similar to the current one. I would guess an Acclamator as a Victory substitute for the Galactic republic with ARC 170 Squads. I have no great guesses for ships in the core for CIS but I do think there will be Vulture Droids for squads.
We will see Ventators and Providence Class Dreadnaughts as an early Large ship wave.
I'm more curious about the squadrons. Because the CIS will probably out bang for the buck the Empire, and the GAR will out quality and versatility the Rebels.
As for ships I am kinda hoping the Venator isn't a large base ship. But at the same time I can't think of another large Republic ship.
Venators are comparable to Liberties. 1150m to 1200m. They should absolutely be large bases.
The early waves should be stuff people are familiar with:
Acclamator - 750m, carrier
Venator - 1150m, combat carrier
Munificent - 825m, cruiser
Recusant - 1187m, cruiser
Providence - 1088m, battleship
*Recusant and Providence had larger variants in the 2-3km range.
So the GAR has a medium and large and CIS has a medium and two larges as their most recognizable.
CIS squads should be cheap. Probably overarmed but not able to take real hits. GAR should have high quality squads. Premium generics even.
Given all that, I would like to see the core box be Droid fighters and a Munificent against ARC-170s and an Acclamator. Save a bit on models and get the core a little cheaper for newer players.
Agreed. Venators should absolutely be large base.
Im predicting both factions capital ships to be undergunned compared to the empire. I can see both factions having high sqd values. Wouldn’t surprise me to see cissquads have some mechanic similar to legion b1 battle droids. Ai/a1 attack.

Heh AI: Attack - “During the squadron phase, you gain rogue, but must attack the nearest enemy squadron if it is in range.

IMHO, I think the core will be a bit more expensive and we will get a venator (large), munificent (medium) and a small sepratists ship. Some how all that is balanced or maybe a 4 ship core. Add an arquitens in there for republic V19 squads and vulture droids squads.
I really hope, that the munificent-class will be some kind of pocket battleship, rather than a carrierish ship like the AFII or the VSD-II. Not necessarily tanky, but with good offense. A deployable medium sized battle cruiser would be cool.

Depending on configuration, 12-36 fighters on the munificent. So it could easily pull an AFmk2 where one variant has squadron 3 and one is squadron 1-2.
it also looks considerably more heavily armed than the AFmk2. No launchers are listed, so arcs full of reds and blue.

What about an acclamatoe and a munificent?

I guess the former is more recognizable and likely. Both Consular and Munificent are known through relative prominent movie appearances by the wider audience. The problem here is, that the seppies don't really have a famous small ship. So my bet is on Arq (probably a new mold, at least for the upper side. It's physically different from the imperial one) and most definitely Consular (charger refit though) vs Munificent. For the fighters the Vulture seems to be out of question, with V-Wings, V-19 Torrent Starfighters and ARC-170 being good fits for the GAR. The ARC-170's cinematic prominence and likely strategic relevance (bombing capability) for the core set make it the most promising one though.

The separatists have these huge prow turbo lasers on the Munificent and Recusant. So I guess they might have significant forward fire power, alongside punishing Providence broadsides (these are the CW Home Ones after all).
Regarding that AI mechanic, I guess that could be handled easier. Just give them terrible stats and a keyword that boosts them when activated through a squadron command. Also give separatist ships high squadron values to (partially!!!) balance that out. I highly expect ARCs to get rogue btw.
Also I'd like to see Droid fighters getting the multiple uniques thing from X-Wing, were the amount of dots tells you how many copies of a pilot you can field.
