2 list using things I rarely use, Decimators and Raiders

By Fredrikhuhtanen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I am getting back into Armada and was trying to get around to using some things that I rarely use. So I made a list around Raiders, and one around decimators and expensive rogues in general. Are there lists valid at all? Are there any other lists going around that use decimators or raiders that would work better? All advice is appreciated.

Name: Vader Decimator
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Darth Vader

ISD Cymoon 1 Refit (112)

Interdictor Suppression Refit (90)
• Admiral Screed (26)
• Taskmaster Grint (5)
• Projection Experts (6)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)

• G7-X Grav Well Projector (2)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)

Squadrons:
• Bossk (23)
• Tel Trevura (17)
= 40 Points

Total Points: 399

Save yourself 14 points by taking gunnery teams off those raiders.

I’ve got quite a lot of experience with Decimators. Here are a few tips: they really need Intel lest they get tied down by scatter aces. Your Intel could use a source of escort, though that isn’t strictly necessary. If you do Intel and Decimators, go all in. All that said, I’ve found this to be quite good: Dengar, Tel Trevura, Morna, and 3 Decimators. A Raider can complement them well to add an additional anti-squadron presence, especially with Iden Verso on board. Try Screed on a Pryce Kuat with upgrades of your choice, a Raider 2 with Corvus, Iden, DCaps, and HIEs, and a Comms Net Gozanti. It’s quite good.

Huh, that is an interesting idea, I might try it or something like it. Is a raider and a Kuat enough firepower to carry the list?

Based on your advice I thought of two variations, was wondering if either is viable or what could be changed for the better. Both use a similar squadrons core, it is mostly a matter of Gladiator+raider or double raider

Screed Gladiator:

Raider II (48)
• Iden Versio (6)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Corvus (2)
= 68 Points

Gladiator I (56)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
• Demolisher (10)
= 77 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Victory I (73)
• Admiral Screed (26)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
• Harrow (3)
• Engine Techs (8)
= 126 Points

Squadrons:
• Dengar (20)
• Tel Trevura (17)
• Bossk (23)
• 2 x VT-49 Decimator (44)
= 104 Points

Total Points: 400

Screed Double Raider:

Raider II (48)
• Iden Versio (6)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Corvus (2)
= 68 Points

Raider II (48)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
= 60 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Victory I (73)
• Admiral Screed (26)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Quad Battery Turrets (5)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
• Harrow (3)
• Engine Techs (8)
= 131 Points

Squadrons:
• Dengar (20)
• Tel Trevura (17)
• Bossk (23)
• Morna Kee (27)
• Boba Fett (26)
= 113 Points

Total Points: 397

@Fredrikhuhtanen , I like to keep an even number of squadrons for deployment reasons. Also, if I have fewer than 5 activations, I like to have a centerpiece that can take a beating as you’ll be out activated fairly often. Your Harrow with Brunson might fill that role, but without ECM, it might struggle. Give it a shot and refine it though!

Also, the first build with Demo is probably more potent. HIEs have very quickly diminishing returns.

Yeah, I have not gotten my Chimaera yet so I can't run a Kuat until it arrives, so I was considering going for one of these two lists in the meantime. Any suggestion wheter double raider or glad+raider would be better?

Dropped Bobba Fett and Morna Kee for two Decimators and an interceptor to get an even number of squadrons in the double raider list.

Once I get my Kuat, I might go for something like this:
Which overall seems much more well rounded and can even go for a Strategic officer instead of Brunson for an extra activation if needed.

Screed Kuat

ISD Kuat Refit (112)
• Admiral Screed (26)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
= 161 Points

Raider II (48)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Corvus (2)
= 62 Points

Raider II (48)
• Iden Versio (6)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
= 66 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Squadrons:
• Dengar (20)
• Tel Trevura (17)
• Morna Kee (27)
• VT-49 Decimator (22)
= 86 Points

Total Points: 400

I’d generally stick with only one HIE in a fleet, just because it’s so expensive and the diminishing returns. Also, Intel is much less valuable in a squadron wing of under 120 points. At 86 points, you’ll want a flexible presence that can do anti-squadron or anti-ship duty. Bossk becomes much more valuable with his Grit and ability. Decimators seem to do better at the higher numbers. I’d recommend dropping the second Raider for a full squadron group or upgrading that second Raider to Demo and re-orienting the squads for more anti-squadron work.

Thanks for the suggestion. Does something like this look better? The squadrons should be better at dealing with other squadrons now. The squadron line-up is a bit strange, it might be that I am trying to get use out of the IG-88s since I seldom run either. The squadrons could be optimized more I guess? And should I lower the squadron cost slightly to fit in Avenger to synergize with the heavy Ion? I could go avenger, with Ciera and Soontir instead of the IG88s.

Screed Kuat

ISD Kuat Refit (112)
• Admiral Screed (26)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ordnance Experts (4)

= 61 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Squadrons:
• Boba Fett (26)
• Bossk (23)
• IG-88 (21)
• IG-88B (21)
= 91 Points

Avenger might be nice, but not necessary here. They’ll save the brace for the Kuat, so it won’t matter much. Zertik Strom is starting to look attractive with IG88B and Bossk both on the scene. You could consider trading out the regular IG88 or Boba for him. A bit of a bid might be nice. Also, your build with Harrow and Demo earlier might work out just fine. I don’t want to discourage you in trying that out as well. Harrow is solid.

But they cant use their brace against HiE and Avenger right?
Yeah I will likely try running the Harrow and demo at some point. Hmmm yeah Zertik or at least a source of escort could work. I could go Avenger, Bossk, IG-88B, Zertik Strom/Tel Trevura and Soontir Fel. Since the Soontir with escort combo is always nice. It would also leave me with a 9 point bid.

For objectives I was considering Surprise attack, Planetary Ion cannon and Solar Corona, does that seem like a decent pick or are there any objectives I should switch around?

Instead of Degnar, i would think about 2-3 Reserve Hangar Bays and one Jumpmaster.
it can be a real pain for your opponent to hunt down this Jumpmaster all over the map, when you save it everytime with the Hangar bays, and place it at distance >5 away from where it was destroyed.

And you have at least 2 times a chance to get your squadrons free.
