If I attempt an action via Advanced Sensors and it fails, I had previously assumed I would not get an action after moving. I noticed when using the FlyCasual simulator that I was still getting my action after moving following an advanced sensors fail. Searched around a bit and haven’t seen a definitive ruling on this one. Thanks guys, and my apologies if I am overlooking something obvious.
Advanced sensors and failed actions
good question. since you're not actually considered to have completed an action, fly casual's interpretation is perfectly valid.
i think it's important to note that you cannot choose to resolve the effect of a failed action in a different way - and failing an action is not described as not having performed that action, but resolving it in a default way, resulting in the ship not having completed the action. you cannot perform an action during the same round you've failed that action.
also, advanced sensors can be interpreted as not using the performing the of the action completely as a requirement for the rest of the ability, just the opportunity of trying to perform the action. this is where it gets a bit unclear, how ever. technically, if you've failed an action, you've attempted to perform that action. you haven't really performed an action, though, at least not completely. i don't think other effects that trigger "after you perform an action." would trigger after you fail an action. this can be discussed endlessly.
i do believe most people playing the game or judging games would interpret that "you may perform 1 action." has been completed, even if the action did not resolve as intended. it was still resolved in a default way. so in short, i don't believe you get to perform another action during your activation even if you fail your advanced sensors action, no.
could certainly be clearer.
QuoteFAIL
Some effects can fail, which means the effect did not resolve as intended and instead is resolved in a default way.
A ship can fail when it barrel rolls, boosts, coordinates, decloaks, deploys, jams, locks, or SLAMs.
• An effect that fails does not trigger any effects that would occur after a ship resolves that effect.
• If an action fails, the player does not choose a different action to perform and cannot choose to resolve the effect in a different way.
• If an action fails, since the action was not completed, that ship cannot perform a linked action.
• After a red action fails, the ship gains a stress token.
Under fail in rules reference.
An effect that fails does not trigger any effects that would occur after a ship resolves that effect.
I think the key part might be that Advanced Sensors only says that you may preform an action, and that if you do you can't preform one in the Preform Action step. That second part isn't contingent on the action succeeding, just that you decided to preform an action. Preforming an action that fails is still preforming an action.

Its been discussed before in relation to Vader (pilot) and found that failing an action is failing to perform it, thus Vader cannot trigger more actions.

I'll point out, this is much like how Coordinate works. Regardless if the action was performed or not on the target ship, the Coordinate succeeds.
