Is his ability good against all attacks or just primary attacks?

Ric’s ability is good against all defenses.

i believe this has been discussed before.

consensus is that his ability is good whenever he's defending - or while he's performing a primary attack.

it's possible to interpret the ability as while you defend () a primary attack, but that doesn't seem consistent with how language is used on other cards or in the rules reference.

"while you defend an attack" is not used anywhere else. it's simply stated as "while you defend".

that being said, there has been no official clarification from FFG regarding this. probably because most people just assumes it works whenever ric's defending, primary or special attack.

so it's TO's discretion, but consensus is it works when defending. period.

Thanks for the help 🍻

Yeah. there's two main interpretations:

  1. The general consensus is that Ric Olie's ability works both "while you defend against any attack," and "while you perform a primary attack."
  2. There are some who claim that he only functions "while you defend against, or perform, a primary attack," meaning he wouldn't function when special weapons are used against him. This argument, however, is generally NOT supported by the greater community.

This is why you should always use the Oxford Comma. 😛

"While you defend, or perform a primary weapon attack, if the..."

Using an Oxford Comma makes it crystal clear there are two conditions under which is ability can proc: "while you defend" or "perform a primary attack".

Has it? I didnt know this was even in question. I dont think ive seen an ability yet that is, while defending, asking if the attack is from a primary weapon specifically. Arcs, yes, some specific special weapons represented by icons maybe, but not the primary.
