THE MANDALORIAN ...potential new units...

By wintermoonwolf, in Star Wars: Legion

….What are the new units that we can potential see coming?....

Lots of underworld/scum units to be sure. Generic scum corps (weequay, nikto and klatooinians with pistols), an E-web on a hoversled for support and lots of characters.

Was thinking about this earlier. I’d the Mandolorian himself to be playable by either rebels or empire to represent his nature as a mercenary.

New scum faction preferred. He doesn't really support or have friendly dealings with thew other factions

Without spoiling the show, he basically works with whoever offers the most, new republic or imperial!!

Frankly I don't see new Legion units being drawn from this for a very long time. Legion and IA have a pretty slow pace compared to say, WEG or D20. In pretty short order, D6 had released metal minis for virtually everything seen in the OT plus some originals meant to let players create their own stories. D20 would throw in this or that from any source and I think it'll be awhile till anyone approaches the width and depth they managed to cover. Nothing in The Mandalorian seems to fit with FFG's relatively glacial and reserved release pace. We still don't even have imperial navy troopers.

Without a Scum faction, I'm struggling to think of what we'd get. The titular character would basically be a combination of Boba and Bossk, and without more of the series, we don't know if he'd be anything more than an Imperial asset. We already have an E-Web, and I suspect we'll get IG-88 well before IG-11. Otherwise the show hasn't really introduced any units would fit the existing factions.

Anything from the Mandalorian does seem pretty contingent on a scum/criminal/underworld faction. That said, we are definitely seeing a lot that could be added to said faction! Between Return of the Jedi, Solo and The Mando I think you could pull enough units for scum to have more units in every slot than rebels or imperials. And for corps, support and heavies you could keep it completely generic so there would be no need for subfactions. Just pick and choose your commander, spec. forces and operatives to theme your force as desired.

Since they will most likley go with a X-wing model and get a Scum faction we got a few choices:

  • the mando himself
  • IG-11 who I think will come back
  • blurrg riders
  • that emplacement gun
  • Jawas
  • and maybe the Mudhorn if they go with a a beast master
  • Trandoshans
  • and the warlord Moff Gideon with his imperial leftovers.

A few good choices in there for units. Figure they will keep away from all the other factions taking mercenaries. Keeps the game decently balanced and cleaner.

yes...I thinking similar...

like the floating emplacement gun

...like the blurrg riders too...along with Mudhorn!

As much as I don't think that a Scum faction should be the dumping ground for Tusken Raiders, Ewoks, Jawas and the like, after Chapter 2, I really want me some Jawas in Legion. Maybe as a neutral "battlefield condition" or something. Although, the ones in the show definitely seemed really scummy.

I know he hasn't appeared in the show yet, but wouldn't Gideon be in the imperial faction not scum? Y do people keep suggesting that he would be part of a scum faction?

Depends on how you look at it. By the point of the show, the Empire has officially surrendered, meaning the Moff lacks the legitimacy of being an actual Imperial officer, and becomes, at best, a hold out. At worst, he's a warlord, crime boss, or war criminal using the wealth he acquired during the Empire's time to stay in power. We'll see how the show depicts him, but I can see the argument for both sides.

and here i'm thinking, why not both? Like R2/3P0, I'm sure he'd at some interesting flavor to the current imperial units.

That would be the beauty of a subfaction of "Imperial Remnant" for the Scum faction. Allows the use of non-commander, non-operative Imperial units in the faction, but also allows him to command scummier elements.

yes, Yes, YES......Imperial Remenant

I could see a case being made that Moff Gideon should just be an imperial. But we will have to wait and see what he does in the show to be sure. In the footage so far we see him commanding stormtroopers, deathtroopers and biker scouts. So really no different than other imperials other than dirtier looking paint jobs. He may be like Jyn Erso where he is somewhat out of his actual time. But who knows? He may be more scum than we know yet.

Although The Mandolrian has added Bluurrgs to "my" Star Wars.

No.

As soon as the scum get in and get to pick and choose from any faction, they will become the ONLY faction anyone plays. They will get broken combos of units. That is a terrible idea in my opinion.

They wouldn't though, that's the point. Running an Imperial Remnant Commander limits the selection to non-subfaction scum units (which would presumably be most scum units besides the basic enforcers or bounty hunters) while also offering the option of using Imperial units. No combining with Black Sun, the Pikes, or Hutt units, just the basic ones and some Imperial non-unique units as well. This could be further limited by mandating that only X points or Y number of Imperial units can be included in the list.

I think for that, you just paint your Imperial troops to look how you want. That's a homebrew subfaction that can be made with existing models. We did in the 90's. Remember "ex-Moff Grazz"?

Love the offworld jawas. My ultimate hope for legion is to one day be able to field an army of jawas and ramshackle droids.

Then why, with all the limitations, make them scum? Wouldn't they just being an Imperial work?

I tend to agree (unless we see something really unique in the show) if he is just using dirty imperial soldiers, that's just a theme or paint job.
