How does one store the Range 5 ruler

By XPav, in X-Wing Epic Play

If I try to take it apart, the thin cardboard seems like it will break. It also doesn’t fit in the box.

Someone needs to make a switchblade fold up range 5 ruler.

I found some magnets the size of the holes and glued them in place. This leaves two standard rulers that easily snap apart.

At first, I only used one peg so it could "switchblade". But then it's still a 4-length and doesn't fit anywhere.

So, I gave up and just bought a nice acrylic one. Either way, it just rattles around the closet without a box.

I have done some Research (tm) and have found that Big Acrylic is in fact making two-piece range 5 rulers with magnets.

Now i just need a coupon code and I'm in.

Or you can get the Maneuver Dial upgrade pack, which includes a 5 part range ruler. By which I mean it comes in 5 range 1 pieces which you can put together to make up to a range 5 ruler.

EDIT: I think that's the option I'm going to go with. But for now I only have one of the pegs in so it can be folded up. I keep the range rulers in one row of the tackle box I'm using for X-Wing.

That template kit is terrible.

Looks like a better option then cardboard that gets severely beat up just in transit from game to game or via standard use.

I'm in the middle of painting my template set white and black like a stormtrooper. That way it works for both Galactic Empire and First Order. Once they have a few more layers of white, and a glass varnish on top I anticipate they still look pretty spiffy.

I also think the template set seems like it could look nice in just gray, but drybrushed with some light gray and washed with black, just to pop the textures.

I like the new templates. They are easy to pick up and manipulate. For the maneuvering templates, I painted the numbers/arrows then gave the whole thing a light black wash.

The range rulers are easy to store. Not the best pic, bit all I did was give them a bit heavier black wash. It makes them look a little like worn metal (was inspired by pics I saw elsewhere). I already have a nice acrylic set so these are being stored with my huge ships.

In 1.0 I kept my Range 5 ruler with my game mat.

Looks at game mat box.

Looks at range ruler.

Feels dumb.

I bought an magnetized acrylic range ruler that works great, though I have been considering the new plastic ones.

I've got some range rulers there as well, and I do use @Darth Meanie 's suggested switchblade technique still (it fits in my mini storage solution that way.)

I'm probably going to look at an acrylic solution eventually, though... probably when a third party releases the new movement tool in a flatter format.
