Translated Promo Characters

A ogre is attacking him but the juggler is playing with his balls and he can escape from the ogre.

Now that certainly can't be an accurate translation!

It's just the story about the Juggler.

I am sure that the word( monster) is accurate. otherwise it should read: (enemies)

partido_risa.gif I got it!

Thanks V!

The last ability is also a bit vague as it is unclear whether you can roll as normal for the village etc before performing.

Almost all abilities related to a non-draw space that describe interacting with the space are an exclusive choice. This is implied by a few characters that explicitly state an exception that the character may use the ability and still interact with other "choice" options on the space. I believe the Merchant has one for the barter ability. Well... at least that's the way my group interprets it... and others that I chat with abroad.

Cidervampire said:

Come to that, the 1st ability should have the "can't be used when another character attacks you" clausef

Yes, but it is more succinctly covered the clause "instead of attacking another character", which implies the conditions for choosing to use the ability. Those conditions do not exist when the Juggler "is attacked ".

Here's a retake on how I would reword the Juggled, my number one pick of the pack.

==================

Instead of attacking another character, you may impress him with your skills and take one gold from him.

Instead of attacking a Monster in battle, you may try to confuse it. Roll a die and add your Craft. If the total is higher than the Monster's Strength, then you evade it, otherwise you must face it in Battle.

At the Tavern, City, Village, Castle, or the Market, you may earn one gold with a performance as your chosen option there. Once you receive payment for your performance, your turn immediately ends.

Update. Edited text for some of the characters special abilities. Also added new high resolution with the backside attached since I got alot of requests for that.

Also added the last missing character. The Satan Servant, although I changed his name to Dark Servant instead for thematic reasons.

Has anyone had any luck in tracking down suitable miniatures to use rather than the cardboard figures?

Geoff

Thank you so much for translating these! I'm just waiting for my card sleeves to come in the mail so I can throw them in with the other characters. We play random characters so I want it to be harder for players to know if they're getting a printed one or one that came in a set.

Does anyone have a scan of the cardboard standees for these? I've seen smaller files of them but nothing that I could print and use.

This is great to see! I just got my copy of Mephisto in the mail this morning and the cards survived the journey farily well. Is there any resource created yet for printing out stickers to put on the cards? I just want to replace the text on the cards, suggestions on how to go about that?

Thanks everyone for your very diligent translation and attention to rules, it's very much appreciated!

Hi Inkblob,

I print the text on paper, and put it into my character sleeve.

If i am right, the text should fit in the sleeve...

i still need to print them out..

allawi's flickr pics are actual size? if I printed out the text from those graphics, it would match the card?

If you look to Strange Eons and Jon New's Talisman plugin, you will find templates in there for two different types of standees. You could if needed copy the character image in and create your own standees.

If you need the Strange Eons format I can send them to you, there you can get a real 300DPI printable version.

I would really appreciate that! Could you email them to me? inkblob at gmail dot com
I've been meaning to install Strange Eons, this is a great excuse happy.gif

I haven't had a chance to check them all out yet, but the newly added Dark Servant seems worded weird on a couple of his abilities. Are they worded correctly?

-For the commanding spirits ability, does the spirit attack the other characters once it moves to their location or does it just move there? The wording seems to imply the latter even though it says "command it to attack" earlier.

-When you "claim" the Devil, Mephistopheles or Phantom, what does that mean? Do you resolve that card as if you encountered it? The wording doesn't seem clear.

Still though, thanks so much for doing this Allawi! These will be very awesome to use once everything is squared away.

has there been any word if these will be published in the US ?? Officially ???

I would very much enjoy the files too, I've been re-editing them to make them 300DPI but it's been very tedious after making the tokens. My email is ktrimbo at gmail dot com. I would greatly appreciate it!

I do have a quick question about the Fortune Knight though. The way his first ability is written it reads as though he can make anyone re-roll at anytime, is that how it was written in the original? When I re-edited him in Strange Eons to get the high quality card I wrote it out so he could only make characters and monsters re-roll that he is engaged in combat with. Does that make more sense? Or is he supposed to be able to affect anyone on the board at anytime?

I would very much to have the eon files for this character.
My email is gumshoe_nr1 at msn.com

THANKS A LOT!

Don't wait on that. It rarely ever happen in any previous edition of the game.

I've been looking over the Mephisto characters, preparing to make them for myself and greatly appreciate all the effort put into this. I've notice a few glitches, and though I don't know if anyone else cares, I'll share what I'm correcting if others wish to do the same. Some of the changes in the text are in bold . Some capitalizations are my own preference by US publishing style guidelines where mechanics terminology is used; you can ignore them if you wish.

If anyone discovers any glitches, please let me know herein.

Martyr
(A neuter or genderless noun that applies to both male and female; "Matyress" is incorrect in English.)

When you attack another character, you may choose to make the attack Psychic Combat. You may not do so when you are attacked by another character.

When you engage in Battle, you may choose to sacrifice a Life. If you do so, opponent creatures are destroyed (you gain no trophy for an Enemy) and opponent characters are forced to lose a Life or grant you 1 Gold or Object of your choice.

After rolling the die when praying , you may add 1 to the score.

Shapeshifter

When you attack another character, you may choose to make the attack Psychic Combat. You may not do so when you are attacked by another character.

If you defeat another character in Psychic Combat, you may choose to shapeshift . You [assume / take on] your opponent's current Strength and Craft as long as you keep its shape, but you cannot use its Special Abilities. If you lose a Life, you revert to your own shape and your current Strength and Craft.

You may shift back to your natural shape at any time , including if you are transformed into a toad.

When you encounter a Stranger who requires you to roll a die , you may add 1 to the result.

Illusionist
[sorry, but the original on this one had a lot of loopholes based on its wording.]

You start the game with one Spell.

When you attack another character or creature in Battle, you may choose to send a similacrum to fight in your place. You may not do so when you are attacked. The similacrum has your Strength and Craft but may not use your possessions, Followers, or Spells. If it defeats a character, you may take 1 Gold or Object of choice but not a Life. If it defeats a creature, then you gain no trophy and an Enemy is discarded. If the similacrum is defeated, you do not lose a Life.

Whenever you encounter an Adventure card, you may use illusion to disguise your Alignment. Roll a die, and on a 4, 5, or 6 the illusion is successful; you may choose to encounter the card by any one Alignment of your choice.

RAN OUT OF TIME AND WILL CONTINUE LATER.

JC,

To be the same as the other official characters it should be "this" and not "so" also the Psychic Combat is in lower case (but you've already explained this).

ie: When you attack another character, you may choose to make the attack psychic combat. You may not do this when you are attacked by another character.

I used the following for her sacrifice ability:

When you are engaged in battle you may choose to sacrifice (lose) 1 life. If you do so characters are treated as if you defeated them in battle and enemies are destroyed they cannot be taken as a trophy.

One last thing the last of her abilities should read:

You are always good; ignore any effect that changes your alignment.

As per the Dark Cultist

H.

Arrgh! Three lost posts, and I think it is something to with QUOTES... let me try again. But first... thanks for the feedback, H.!

To be the same as the other official characters it should be "this" and not "so"

Actually, the official cards are incorrect. To say "do this" the previous clause referenced would have to say "make/take/use a/the sacrifice". "This" is a pronoun reference, so must connect to a stated, inferred, or implied action presented in nounal form. The previous clause puts "sacrifice" in verbal form; hence "do so" is more correct. It's probably something only I would get fussy about, and "do this" is part of colloquial English now through usage. I've been trying to correct some of my own cards with other problems like this - connected to some ongoing translation of my expansions. Probably why I did/do so here as well.

I used the following for her sacrifice ability: When you are engaged in battle you may choose to sacrifice (lose) 1 life. If you do so characters are treated as if you defeated them in battle and enemies are destroyed they cannot be taken as a trophy.

I like the change to "enemies" instead of creatures; it eliminates another loophole. She therefore cannot use sacrifice to overcome stuff like creatures of the Inner Region. Not that a smart player would use her that way, but there are other situations, such as facing the Sentinel, where my group (and several test groups) would see a need to rule against this. Your wording eliminates the need for tedious house FAQs at length.

Of course this may not be a fully correct translation of the original term. Perhaps someone else can throw some light on that. Just the same, I will still go with your choice as the better one.

While we're on term standards, I'm wondering now about the use of "engage." "Attack" vs. "are attacked" is what is most often used. Plus I cannot see the reasoning of a "martyr" being allowed a sacrifice when choosing to attack and take someone else's life. To do so is very slip-shod use of the term "martyr." So I may go with the following instead.

"When you are attacked in battle you may choose to sacrifice (lose) 1 life. You may not do so when you attack. If you do so, characters are treated as if you defeated them, while enemies are destroyed and cannot be taken as a trophy."

But, this brings in that age old argument of when is an Enemy "attacking" or being "attacked." All the groups I know have that worked out, but it's never been official settled... unless I missed something else.

One last thing the last of her abilities should read: You are always good; ignore any effect that changes your alignment.

OOPS! Thanks for catching that.

Geoff

Reaper Miniatures has a great line and there is one that matches the Courtesan almost exactly. The Black Witch is a Games Workshop Witch Elf, so any mini in that line would do. The Shape Shifter would need to be a composite mini... I am looking at the games Workshop line to find the right parts, but am leaning towards the daemonette of Slaanesh torso and right arm, head legs and left arm from the mordheim/free men plastics. I need to double checek but i believe there is a mordheim Witch Hunter that is almost an exact copy of the Exorcist. I am still looking around for the others.

Hi all,

thanks a lot for all the feedback regarding wording and stuff. I have now edited all characters to reflect the feedback from all of you and created .PDF files of all characters that are ready for print. They are complete with Trim lines and all. If anybody of you know a place where I can host them, send me a PM so we can share these characers to all Talisman players around the globe!

I took the PDF to my local copy/print shop and they printed them out for me on high quality printers with the exact same paper type. They look amazing and there is only a slight difference in color contrast. Once I recieve my characters sleeves they will be like a part of the core game :) :)

Now I only need to find suitable minis for the cards, the info Shadw provided was very helpful and I will follow that route for now.

I wish I could sculpt those minis to share with you all but I have no permisssion to do so llorando.gif

Yeah that's a real shame considering your skills.... I wish I could sculpt characters like you!
