Ozzel on the Raider: Speed-0 blue banks?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ozzel's card allows you to suffer one damage to execute a maneuver of the same bearing and difficulty, but at a speed one higher or lower. Am I correct in my understanding that this would allow a Raider with Ozzel to reduce the speed of the Raider's blue 1-bank to a blue 0-bank?

no. stationary is a different bearing than bank. please see page 6 of the rules reference, under Bearing.

Epic dials do have 0 speed banks though, and they are not Stop manoeuvres, they're 0-speed banks, using the bank symbol and everything. He couldn't make a 1 straight into a 0 stop, but there doesn't seem to be a reason he couldn't make a 1 bank into a 0 bank. If they didn't want it to work they would have needed to use a different symbol for a speed 0 45 degree rotate.

So this would seem to work, prima facie.

(And in general implies that 0 banks are A Thing which has uncomfortable implications for Ved Folso given that there's no way for non-Epics to execute them...)

I get confused by this card. (And Ved Folso who has the same wording).

Is "the same bearing and difficulty" a requirement of the selectable options for the new maneuver OR is it simply telling me that the bearing and difficulty of the new maneuver will be the same as my original.

I always assumed its the first, but now not certain.

Take Ved's options as an example.

Obviously he can change the 1 bank into a 2 bank and back. But can a 2 bank be changed into a 3 bank?

And for that matter, can he execute something that's not on his dail. Can he dail a 2 turn and then change it into a 1 turn? This doesn't seem right, so my original interpretation feels most likely. The "same bearing and difficulty" limits the selectable options, not changes the current one into that.

Ved specifically does not change his dial, he changes the speed of his selected manoeuvre, not any other variables. So he can change to a manoeuvre of a speed and/or difficulty that isn't on his dial. He is however limited to speeds for which templates exist, so no 4 turns or banks, and previously, no 0 banks...

Ok, thanks.

I would say still no 0 banks.

0 bank is a Huge ship thing. There is still no template for a 0 bank on a non-epic ship. Same as a 4 turn/bank.

On the other hand, since Ozzel costs a Command upgrade slot and a Crew upgrade slot while only going on Huge imperial ships, a 0 Bank IS an option.

I'd concur, there's no template for 0 banks for non-huge ships, so Ved is out of luck.

Ozzel doesn't work on small/medium ships anyway.

My point was that 0 bank is not an option for small, medium or large ships, even if you could 'change' your 1 bank to it via something like Ozzel, since they can't legally do it.

On huge ships its a viable option, and also on their dails so always an option anyway. Ozzel just changes the difficulty.

Sleep deprivation is a fun thing. I spent a solid fifteen minutes trying to sort out why anyone would bother using Ozzel on Ved in the first place...
