Looking back at the 8 episodes I am super happy with what we got. Solid 8/10 show.

Best episode was 8.
Worst was 5.

Best director was Waititi.
Worst director was Filloni (by far...)

Best character was Baby Yoda (it made my wife finally love Star Wars)
Worst character was Peli Motto.

I liked 5 but I can see where it ranks lower compared to the others. I would say the Twi'lek girl from that episode was more annoying than Peli Motto

I wonder who is gonna EP/Showrun the Cassian show? Maybe they can give that to Filoni, since its much closer in the timeline to Rebels? Honestly, if Rebels characters are going to show up in a live-action show, it would make sense to be that one. Except Sabine, as she has an easy in with Mando.

I doubt it'll be Filoni. I hope that they give him a show about Sabine and Ahsoka's search for Ezra. If they bring Sabine into Mando, it causes some problems for that potential series.

That's rumored to be an animated follow-up to Rebels, I think. Which would be neat.

Still, we'll find out who's in charge of Cassian soon enough, since it starts shooting this year, I think.

There was no Twi’lek in episode 5. She was in episode 6... and I kinda liked her to be honest. Totally different from any Twi’lek we ever saw before.

When you put inclusivity before story you end up with bad story

Sorry, I told others to drop it but this needs to be addressed.
How would you know if the inclusivity was the reason for the bad writing?
I think everyone objects to bad writing but the issue is that inclusivity is not the problem there. The race, gender or sexuality of a character changes absolutely zilch about the writing; good or bad.

When you put priority on secondary traits of a character over story you tend to end up with bad writing because you are so busy checking off boxes you miss writing good story. There are plenty of good stories with characters of every type. But the good stories make no big deal about whatever trait people are worrying about and instead focus on making a good character.

The fact that your mind immediately jumps to the diversity being the issue instead of JUST bad writing doesn’t tell you something about what informs your opinion?!

As opposed to? I am truly curious to find out which badly written movies were written thusly because of their diversity.

Interesting. Schiff has some good movies behind him, hopefully he is a fan of the Star Wars universe. I am a little worried that the series bible was written by someone who appears to be pure Disney. Hopefully the series carries the same feel as Rogue One and not Resistance show.

That goes triple for me! I don't want a spy who trips over his feet every two steps! :D

Agreed. I am sorry for not letting it go...

I actually kinda like Resistance for what it is but I am sure the show will follow the Rogue One template (read: gritty).

I watched the first season and thought the story was interesting and most of the characters were decent, but I have some serious vicarious embarrassment issues, so about half of Kaz's scenes were painful. Very painful. But the only character I actually disliked was Kaz, and largely because he tripped over his feet in pretty much every, single , scene. While screaming. I also didn't like the animation style, but that's pretty much beside the point.

I get your point, but I think it's important to remember that SW Resistance is for younger kids. I think that Disney is waking up to this a bit and is hopefully deciding to use Disney+ to provide demographic-specific programming, which is really hard when you are trying to bring the masses to a holiday blockbuster. Blockbusters have to be for everybody, all nationalities, all ages etc to really bring in the $$$ that are expected (400-600 million domestically for example).

What I like about the Disney+ model is that it allows them to go a little darker since shows can have more specific demographics. Also, Disney+ just added a profile option that allows you to have a kids only setting.

I'm a father of a 5 year old. He already loves SW but we only let him watch lego SW and has just seen A New Hope. I love Rogue One, but really, it's pretty much a war movie. On the other hand, as an adult, I want SW content that is a little darker and I'm hoping that the folks at LF and Disney are using the newer model to allow them to do that as well as to produce content that is specific for younger or even all audiences. It's a tricky scene to navigate. But I think when you think of all of this in terms of age and audience you start to see why Disney and LF have succeeded at times and failed at others.

Let's face it, this has been a long term problem and not just Disney. One of the reasons the Phantom Menace was so bad because George Lucas made it for kids.

I think this is what they've been able to do with the Mandalorian, it's a little darker at times, and it can be produced for more mature audiences. I hope they keep that up.

Yeah, kids love them some trade negotiations and political intrigue.

Now I think it really may be time for the Freddie Prinze Jr clip. 🤣

I can see that. I guess parents could be upset if they market this as a family show and then have Cassian pull the move like he did in R1 and just shoot a contact because he was about to get caught and didn't want to risk him talking. I, on the other hand, want to see stuff like that. Life under the Empire is supposed to be rough and hard for the up and coming Rebels.

Edited by Varlie

I figure if they hire a guy who worked on The Americans and bring back Tony Gilroy, we'll be getting a space espionage/war thriller show. They seem to be really making sure they find the right people for the various SW Disney+ shows, much like they've done with the MCU shows coming, too.

Yeah, a bit of variety would be nice. And we're getting that already. Mandalorian's tone and content is very different from that of Rebels, though still tame compared to the amputation extravaganza that are Lucas' SW movies.

The good thing about streaming services is that its real easy for parents to curate what their kids watch, and are more readily able to prescreen stuff so they can decide if their kids should watch it. A boon for Disney and its various properties, since they can do things there they couldn't do on the silver screen.

Plus, I also think SW benefits from long-form storytelling like TV.

I think the Mandalorian is quite a bit darker than the OT. Getting cut in half by a door or burned by our main characters flame thrower is pretty gnarly. So is getting body smashed into a speeder bike 😂 . It's a little dark and rough at times...and really great!

The worst of the OT is probably seeing the burning corpses of Lukes Aunt and Uncle. Getting a hand cut off is pretty tame really.

I'm not complaining. On the other hand I want more of the Mando and plenty of gritty fight scenes. I'm just cognizant of this since I'm watching with the eyes of a parent too.

I think we’re going to see Disney+ used as a test bed, not for what Star Wars content will go to the big screen, but what talent will work on big screen SW projects.
