Best companion(s) for this Ryad

By Mandalorian27, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello all, I was wondering what you guys think of this build

Ryad - total 95
Countess Ryad - Cutthroat Politico (82)
Marksmanship (1)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Autoblasters (2)

Also, what other ship(s) fits best?

I think a loaded Whisper would be a good start with a considerable bid, such as

“Whisper” - total 89
“Whisper” - Soft-Spoken Slayer (57)
Juke (7)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Stealth Device (6)
•Fifth Brother (9)

Thanks :D

Holy moly. That's a weighty Whisper.

I6 will be pretty horrible to you there.

That's a nice Ryad. It's loading quite a lot on her, but she is good at carrying points. Blasters and Marksmanship seems a great combo on her to me, though I've yet to table it. AS is just brilliant with that ability, but she needs a way to do more damage, you may get a little of that with the marksblaster.

That Whisper might be fun, but for fun I'd much sooner go Echo :D

Absolutely needs a 3rd ship in there 😕

Strip Whispers stealth and AS for Wampa?

But, I think Ryad needs-

A) one big tanky, hard hitting partner- RAC, Rex... Not a lot fits this role.

B) 3 ship ace/support- Sai, Reaper, Soontir, Maarek, Duchess.... lots of choices. v1s are good....

C) A bunch of TIEs/Bombers/Strikers, some form of cheap salad etc.

Imo, she can't be relied on to be the main damage dealer OR end game ship. Shes basically an opportunistic points fortress. Whatever you run with her needs to do more than distract and put some hits in. It needs to last and do major damage, and it needs to be able to take care of enemy aces. I don't think Whisper can do that on her own.

I find the win condition with named Defenders is almost always to have one still on full points at the end. You can push it to half sometimes, there are outliers. But it's especially true for Ryad plus stuff. You have to have something that will draw aggro and trade really well if Ryad has to flee.

I'm still looking at a bunch of options to run with a marksblaster Ryad, no AS. Honestly don't know where I'm going to end up with it, I keep trying to break my own rules :D

Seems like Rexler would be a better endgame piece.

Maarek is a great combo for him, and add an inquisitor as escort.

Rexler Brath (81)
Lone Wolf (5)
Advanced Sensors (10)

Ship total: 96 Half Points: 48 Threshold: 4

Inquisitor (35)
Supernatural Reflexes (8)
Fire-Control System (2)
Cluster Missiles (5)

Ship total: 50 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 2

Maarek Stele (46)
Marksmanship (1)
Passive Sensors (3)

Ship total: 50 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 3

Total: 196

I think I'd try a couple of Starwings with a "Hatchetman-lite" style of build. They're tanky, somewhat unpredictable, can push damage through, and you don't dare let them out of arc if you can help it. Seems like just the ticket to give Ryad some room to breathe and swoop.

Countess Ryad (82)
Marksmanship (1)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Autoblasters (2)

Ship total: 95 Half Points: 48 Threshold: 4

Rho Squadron Pilot (35)

Countess Ryad (82)
Marksmanship (1)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Autoblasters (2)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (76)
Lone Wolf (5)
Moff Jerjerrod (8)
Fifth Brother (9)
Seismic Charges (3)
Dauntless (4)
Total: 200

RAC can be an option. Tough mofo with that reinforce every round. Moff gives Ryad some more unpredictability with boosts.

Looking for all init 4s?

Countess Ryad (82)
Advanced Sensors (10)

Seventh Sister (43)
Sense (5)

“Echo” (51)
Fifth Brother (9)
Total: 200

Sense plays a big role facing higher inits. Allows Ryad know where to adv sensors too, and Echo will know where to decloak.

Are you trying to break me? :D

I tried 7th Sense Echo, it nearly blew my mind.

I actually have 7th Sense in mind for Ryad though. Not even with AS.

My god, the potential complexity.

TC, Daredevil Soontir is the front runner for me, atm ...

There's a local player who can fly Echo just fine, but lands Whisper on rocks. :p

I really want it to be Precognative Vader instead of Ryad (I know it breaks theme, but still!), just to get the full "Twilight of the Apprentice" going. Vader, Seventh Sister, Fifth Brother.

Not necessarily a better list, but that name...

I feel that. I picked Echo up long before Whisper, normal decloaks are so restrictive in comparison, I found it hard to adapt :D

I can fly Echo well. I just have an inadvisable fondness for her surprise factor, which makes plotting for Sense a little more than my brain can handle, over consecutive games.

There was also a slight hint of brokenness to the combo which felt extremely unfair to my opponent, when I tried it..... Game was a whitewash, I felt like I'd had to think way too hard for minimal satisfaction :D

Ofc, more I think about it, the more I want to try the pair with Ryad, dammit....

Also. Precog Vader, 7th and 5th is pretty much my most anticipated squad of 2.0 at this point. Bring on Feb!

Revisiting with vague relevance.

I flew this tonight, after much deliberation.

Soonts' Sis'

(43) Seventh Sister [TIE Advanced v1]
(3) Hate
Points: 46

(82) Countess Ryad [TIE/D Defender]
(2) Autoblasters
(1) Marksmanship
Points: 85

(53) Soontir Fel [TIE Interceptor]
(3) Targeting Computer
(3) Daredevil
Points: 59

Total points: 190

Was decent, against Sense Vader + 3 Foresight Inqs, and RAC + 7th Sis and Sabacc.

I have a lot to learn about flying Soontir, but man, that build has a terrific set of tools. Wished for a Shield or Stealth against the Foresight....

Might fly it again at the wknd, if I do, I'll swap hate for Prockets and put Ryad down to Crack Shot. I'd like to try Marksmanship and Autoblaster again, but I want that strike potential on 7th for squad balance. Points are tight on the bid.

I could go Sense, but I just don't think I like it.

Alternatively, bare bones Rex and GGI might appeal to some. I like Ryads flexibility here though, Rex is very easy to counter if you want him to actually get in and brawl. The Grand Inq, I don't really know, 7th Sister always looks better value to me. She's just great and I've never got past that.

List might be good, might be bad, I don't know yet. Is Soontir alive? Or is he dead? Seems to be fairly contingent.
