TAKING BETS! How long before a Razor Crest

By Seraphimtoaster375, in X-Wing

With The Mandalorian starting tomorrow, how long do you think it will be before we see a Razor Crest expansion pack preview article after the show premiers? A day, a week, a month. Force forbid, a year?!?

EDIT: Also, what do you think it'll be? My initial guess from what little we've seen is a medium base with a 3-die forward arc and decently beefy, cause Scum doesn't have enough medium based ships right now, right.

I’m betting between 4 & 5 months. Because it is a TV show, I don’t know if the Razorcrest will be pushed out like some of the new movie ships. It will hopefully have time to percolate and get all the proper characters in as pilots and crew (looking at you, U-Wing).

Based on the limited data available, I agree with medium base with a 3 die primary. Beyond that, not sure. No sign of secondary weapon systems, no display of maneuverability limits, and no peak at unusually tech.

Going in kind of blind, I’m going to guess two crew, an illicit, and a tech slot. Two crew will give it something a little different than its medium scum brethren. While I did mention no sign of unusual tech, I could see FFG wanting to give Scum some another ship with the tech slot, and would be the first medium base to get it (iirc). Might be less of an issue if they bring in some of the pirate ships from the Resistance show, but we’ll have to see.

i’m expecting it’s dial and stat line to be similar to the Mist Hunter. I’m hoping the show will give it something unusual to play around with.

Edit: oh, mod slot and title too. Forgot about those.

I think just under a year actually sounds about right for the announcement. The TIE/ba and fireball were announced in august 19 and resistance started in october of 18.

This is the part that makes me curious. The show takes place only a couple years after the Battle of Jakuu- so roughly when the T-70 is starting to replace all the T-65 X-Wings. So it the Razor Crest _could_ have the tech slot if it is a brand new, state of the art, ship. This would be similar to why the Ghost as a Sensor slot.

And yes: I'd love to see Scum get a second Tech ship. But I'd also like to see illicits that are worth paying a 1 point tax on the hull for...

To further blur the line as to what gets tech and doesn’t, one of the trailers for the Mandalorian shows what looks to be a Quadjumper.

Now, like your hypothesis, the Quadjumper could be a new ship like the T-70. Then again, maybe not. I’m not finding an introduction date for the line. And with even less known about the Razor Crest and its ship type, I’m just not sure of its age.

I personally think that unless it’s specifically mentioned to be old as dirt, FFG will take creative license and put the Tech slot on the Razor Crest. It may be a bit of a shoehorn, but it wouldn’t be the first. Like I said, the inclusion of pirate ships from Resistance could lessen the need for more Tech capable Scum ships. This could mean they take less creative license with the Razor Crest. Just don’t know enough yet.

There is also the question of how to give the Razor Crest a distinct flavor and role from the other medium base scum ships. The Tech slot could help with that.

Anyway, I’m speculating on limited data, so I could be barking up the wrong tree with suggesting a Tech slot. However it turns out, I’m excited to see what’s done with it.

Edit: also agree with the illicits point.

Close enough to assign it stats appropriate to this thing: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Jaster's_Legacy

Don’t know about that. Jaster’s Legacy is just about as big as the Falcon, where as the Razor Crest seems to be more comparable to a U-Wing (albeit bigger), or the G-1A. The armaments might turn out similar, but not enough data for that.

I'm guessing more like a year, for all the reasons you stated.

And let's not forget getting the sculpt right (looking at you, TIE Silencer).

Heh, while I definitely prefer my timeframe, longer might be for the better.

As for the sculpt, hopefully with the show making actual physical models of the Razor Crest, FFG can get better info on scale and dimensions.

The other thing to think about: It's entirely plausible that older ships still kicking around in 30 years after RotJ would have gotten a refit that would allow for a tech slot. Which, honestly? I wouldn't mind if they slapped the slot onto the Resistance Falcon. Which they can do with the 2.0 app. Would be interesting to see...

Having access to Pattern Analyzer on a Resistance Falcon would be real nice.

Soon, I hope; I want to fly it along some G-1 bathtubs and rake in delicious, succulent bounties.

I expect we'll probably get some ships from the movie first, so maybe midway through next year.

I have wondered if they might give it SLAM. It's something Scum currently lacks, and it does have big engines. Also the design / weight distribution seems like it would make acrobatic maneuvers difficult, so I feel like it would make sense if it didn't have K-turns etc.

Double crew, Illicit, tech slot with slam and a Scurrg-ish dial would be great

I suspect a year out as well. 3rd quarter 2020 is my guess. I'd be happy to have it sooner!

Small base - looks to be the size of a TIE Bomber.

Nah - medium base at least, as others are saying. I watched the show last night.

I believe the first bounty, who named the ship as a Razor Crest, also implies that the ship is pre-Imperial. Which would make it roughly 30-40 years old by the time the show is set. Just another example of the Star Wars universe's fairly stagnant technological development.

Yep. It is also mentioned as pre-empire in its Database entry here:

https://www.starwars.com/databank/razor-crest

That qualifies as “old as dirt” enough for my book.
