Venator Ghost Ship WIP

By Thunderboltmanor, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I've had an account for a year or two and never posted anything. I'm not finished with this Venator, the Vita Brevis, but I thought I should at least post something. I was reading about the SS Baychimo, a ghost ship off the coast of Alaska abandoned in 1931 and seen until 1969, and I wanted to make an old and rusted ship. It's in the white natural versatile plastic, or whatever it is presently called, so I thought the rougher texture would suit a ship that's been abandoned in an atmosphere and rusting for a couple of decades. Sorry for the quality, I'm using my phone camera, I terrible eyes, and I have even worse photography skills. I'll need a friend with an actual camera to take pictures when it is done.

Great concept and execution. And the white versatile plastic actually looks better than I would have expected. Good to know, because the larger models quickly become cost prohibitive if opting for smooth fine detail plastic (previously fine ultra detail, I believe). Mel's Resurgent -class Star Destroyer is over $800 using the highest quality plastic, which is simply not justifiable. (Not his fault, I know. Shapeways will charge what it charges.)

I have started work on some others and used 3-4 coats of varnish to help smooth over the surface. It doesn't look as good as the fantasy flight models, but it looks a lot better than without it. ON this ship I believe I only did 1-2 coats because I didn't mind the roughness so much for it.

I rather like the concept and name of this, and the paint scheme on the somewhat rough surface suits just fine.
