Yeah that makes no sense?!? So many upgrades and such, why would the app not have them??? And if they weren't planning the app, why not print the points on the cards??

I... I have no idea why they aren't including Epic format and the Huge ships/upgrades in the app. Maybe they really don't have someone skilled enough in coding to go over the app and change it to include the new upgrade types.

I suspect it is more don't want to pay anyone skilled enough to make the changes. Wasn't there words going about that they utterly mis-estimated the costs of the app? Here is more fruit of that tree if so.
I would believe they hired the wrong person/people to make the app in the first place. It definitely lacks features that you would expect it should have.
I think it's just going to cost them too much to make big changes to the app. Which is frustrating. (Ninja'd by @Frimmel )
The disappointing thing is that nobody in the app will stumble upon Epic and think "Wow, this looks cool. Maybe I should buy in." The counterargument could be made that too few people use the official app to really make a difference.
I just hope wherever I'm building a squad has good Internet/LTE reception because it's going to be YASB from now on. I hate card sleeves, but maybe it's time to sleeve than and use wet-erase marker to write the points cost on each sleeve.

The thing should be the Rolls Royce of squad-builders but it is barely a Taurus. I remember getting a bad feeling about the thing when we didn't get a preview before the release of second edition.

I've been waiting for the stuff to show up in the app so I could give it look over and see what I might be getting into. They have lost sales to me with this failure. And probably not just Epic X-wing sales. I'm hearing that, "What are you the X-wing forum?" comment from the preview video before 2nd Ed. release again.
And then they didn't exactly hide it but they aren't really letting everyone flat out know that the update isn't coming. Feels quite spineless.

Holy crap. I've given FFG the benefit of the doubt on a lot of things, but this is just plain stupid .
Looks like I'm going 3rd party with my squad-building from now on.

Because points change...
I would be way less irked if they had been more upfront about it.

I'm somewhere in the zone of "The Mr. Hanky Clone Army Just Arrived."

This. I was really impressed by the support Epic was getting. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT (pun not intended, but there it is anyways}.
Obviously the app will only ever be a derelict wreck of code on life support.

Yeah, I think you just earned more than my interest. Time to support you and YASB II in a way that's more than borrowing your product.
The game and it's community needs this kind of support to make it as user friendly as possible. PDFs don't cut it--I'd don't want to feel like an actuary every time I list build. At this point, I can no longer think that 3rd party apps are stealing FFG's thunder, when they fail to provide a pot to piss in.
It's really too bad, the App held as much promise as 2.0 itself.
Yeah, just dipping my toe into this topic, and I share the disappointment expressed by many here. Not having Epic on the official app is strange and troubling. To be fair, even if Epic was on the app, I’d probably still recommend a third party list builder. But just straight up not putting it on the app doesn’t feel right. Maybe it’s a sign that they’re looking at getting a new one built and saving the effort for that, but that’s probably just wishful thinking.

I have read this about 10 times and I can’t believe it. The app already stinks and now it doesn’t even support the latest releases?! Thank goodness for the third party apps.

And how would anyone know with out an app? Not everyone follows the FFG page everyday.

The Taurus was a no frills but solid and dependable every day car that could accommodate many different drivers. The app is looking more like:

With the free pdf’s or would you want to buy a $40 supplement book that other games require for their point changes? There’s also apps the community puts out that adapts those pdf’s. I’m sure you’ve used YASB and LBN more than the official app anyways.

I’m hoping the reason X Squad stopped working is that FFG is going to take it over. Probably not though.

Well, that basically confirms my suspicion that the app will never see another change beyond the minor database edits of point costs.
Sounds like ffg really shot themselves in the foot on that one. Spent too much money hiring the wrong guys for the job and now they’ve got a barely working product nobody wants to use.

Agreed that except for points changes what we've got is what we get. I'm stuck wondering if even new non-Epic releases will make it.
Does anyone know who those wrong expensive guys for the job were? Did they even find anyone who had tried to build or edit an X-wing list before?

I’m sure they were folks who only knew how to make things look pretty (because the app doesn’t look horrible until you try to use it). They certainly aren’t familiar with user testing though.
I suspect the problem is ffg struggleD to explain functional requirements and the devs failed to understand basic practices and met the minimal product requirement.
I work in IT... I’ve seen some amazingly dumb developers before who are really bright in just one area. They fail at the rest though.

when the rest of the game is run off the official app? how does that make sense? And i personally use the official app. It's the making the game, and list building for this product, more annoying than it is fun. That will hurt sales imho.

Your life just got a whole lot easier.
...and I say that as someone who never likes third party stuff. I'd even feel dirty if I held a friend's N64 controller that used a third party rumble pack.

Maybe.
Certainly there is more to the $40 than "here are new points," because I can't imagine that XWM players are even more miserly than the average wargamer.
All this considered, XWM players have all spent $50 per faction plus a $30 starter kit to upgrade just last year , so the comparison is a little weak at this point. Now, Epic players just shucked out $25 to get a half-upgrade , since the App is supposed to be a functional part of upgrading to 2.0.
