Huge Ships in App?

By Brasca, in X-Wing

Any word on when the Huge Ships will appear in the app?

I'd love to know too. My friend refuses to use 3rd party squad builders. And while there's a PDF for the cost of the ships, there's no official information on how much the upgrades cost that I can find.

Epic and Huge Ship Upgrade points are in the same pdf as the Huge Ships themselves.

Your friend is odd.

I bet FFG flopped down the new Epic points and the intern who's been updating the points went "errr we don't have Command, Hardpoint, Team, and Cargo slots in the app". And then they realized they needed to find someone to make more changes to the app than were expected. And then the company that did the app last time doesn't want to do it anymore and so FFG is trying to find some company to make small updates to the app and not liking the quotes they're getting back.

But that's just a guess.

Must have updated the PDF since I last looked at it, cause before it only gave the point costs and upgrade slots for the Huge ships.

And yes, my friend is very odd. After playing one Escalation match using just the core set when I bought it he decided to buy into the game. So the next day he went out and bought a core set, then 2 expansion packs for every currently released as of last month Galactic Empire ship. He decided an instant X-Wing collection for the faction of his choice was more important then eating. As such he spent the latter half of last month having to go down to the Mission to eat meals.

almost like the app requirement was a bad idea!

It's not a bad idea. You can see what the intention was, and it does let them rebalance things without having to create new upgrades that specifically counter other overpowered things. But the app does lack functionality it really should have shipped with. Such as being able to filter pilot and upgrade options according to what is actually in your collection. You know, since it does let you track your collection.

If a company is going to make an App a core element of your gameplay it needs to really, really own it. But that’s hard for a company that designs and ships paper board games.

Then again, FFG are really good at making both ships and paper board games. I have both Elder Sign and Arkham Horror. And both are fantastic games suitable for solo and group play. I'm also quite pleased that they rereleased Netrunner. I greatly enjoyed that card game back in the day. And they have rereleased West End Game's old Star Wars RPG? Cool beans, as the kids use to say.

The X-Wing App was a great idea, which other games tabletop wargames games have pulled off successfully. They just mismanaged it in this particular case with X-Wing by giving it to the wrong development team initially, then not really owning it and jumping on it as a priority when the problems started showing up.

Very odd, considering their previous experience with other apps for games like Imperial Assault, Descent, Elder Sign, etc. and relationship to Asmodee and Asmodee-Digital which has many well done apps. They should have had access to a decent team to create it and maintain it.

This isn't an problem of the technology, this is a problem of management.

I keep fantasizing that at some point they might scrap what they’ve got and take over as maintainers of a fork of YASB. I mean, I can dream.

That this is a subject of my fantasies... probably says more about me than I’d prefer to admit. 😝

Uhm... I am not going to speculate about what your fantasies say about you.

That app has been a bad idea since they considered doing it, and it just keeps being awful (Sorry FFG). They dropped all the Epic/Huge stuff and there's nothing available for it from them. I still rely on Yet Another Squad Builder for it, and it's all been updated with the new information.

Not "all" updated. YASB 2.0 still hasn't added the released Huge ship expansions or Epic Battles to My Collection.

A little odd; usually the only constraint is the street date for their availability.

Yeah, which is annoying since it means it keeps telling me "you don't own that ship/card". And while the upgrade cards are added, you can't manually add them to "my collection" because none of them appear there.

I think they pull the product list from the FFG API for the collection feature, and since FFG has not updated their list...

It was always there.

You should introduce him to the concept of budgeting and financial responsibility...I mean, MANY of us, myself included, overspend on X-wing, but I'm pretty sure we can still buy groceries.

I know! I only bought the CR-90 and Epic Battles expansion because I had crunched the numbers, and could afford them both this month. My plan is to get one or two ships a month until my Rebel Alliance collection is 3 each of the X-Wing, B-Wing, Y-Wing, and A-Wing, and one each of the other ships. That way I can form wings of starfighters and bombers in Epic matches while still having a full set of Rebel ships. That, and hope that friends and family get the hint and I get X-Wing minis for my birthday and Christmas. :)

Only after I've completed my Rebel Alliance fleet with at least 1 of each ship will I start getting more Galactic Empire stuff, again only 1 or 2 a month though.

Amazon wishlists are a great way to nudge family members about gaming gifts in the run up to XMas. :) I always make sure to note in the list a couple of gaming specific sites where you can usually get better prices than Amazon, though!

I may have overspent in xwing.... and legion.... and some other non-ffg miniature games. But at least I never made anyone go hungry before.

My problem is I tend to go in spurts - I won’t buy anything for a while and then boom, internet or LGS shopping spree (depending on game/venue/etc) - I now just preorder the new wave stuff through my LGS and call it a win. I then try to remember to save enough for that before release date.

Which I'd imagine gets complicated if there's no announced release date. If I pre-order, I do so while marking the funds as already spent from the moment I place the pre-order. That way I don't forget to ensure there's enough money. Actually, I received an email from Amazon a few minutes ago, and another email from my dad. He ordered something for me for my birthday, which is coming up next month. And told me in the email to go ahead and open it when the boxes arrive tomorrow. He says it's something to help me in gaming on Wednesdays. But he didn't mention which type of gaming. There's local X-Wing every week on Wednesday, and Pathfinder Society every other Wednesday.

I'm hoping it's X-Wing minis, but who knows. Even if it's just a storage/transport method that would be great.

Plug for Team Covenant: They charge you when you place the order, which I vastly prefer.

Fair, but most of my orders are through my LGS so I want to support where I play

Makes sense. Thank goodness Covenant is my LGS :D

I've been ordering directly from FFG, but that's because my LGS only stocks B wings for the rebel alliance since I'm apparently the only one in the area who plays that faction.
