Huge conversion kit. Can't convert 2 of same ship.

By Bort, in X-Wing Epic Play

Just a heads-up for people planning to convert multiple ships.

The kit comes with 2 bases. And 2 shield/energy tracking dails.

BUT... using one kit you will NOT be able to convert 2 of the same ships. There is only one baseplate cardboard of each ship type.

*Edit. You do technically get 2 dails for each ship, but one for each faction the ship can be used for. So for example the C-ROC has one Scum dail, and one Sepratist dail. So basically the baseplate is the restriction.

It's annoying, but you do still have all the nessasary lines on any other base, so you could use a GR75 base for another C ROC, it may not have the printed arcs, but it's still functions

Agreed. And I only have the one C-ROC. So doesn't matter to me. But I thought I'd just mention it to people considering buying 2x V1.0 ships and 1 conversion kit.

This is good info to have.

The init values are in the ship token, if that matters...

If one upgrade kit can only equip 2 V1 ships, I think the math is still better if you buy a second kit if you can acquire 3 x v1 ships over waiting for the 2.0 ships. I/my son have now a V1 Raider and a GR-75, I intend to get him a new V2 CR90, and may try to pick up a Gozanti v1 and a C-ROC. Buying the last two and a second upgrade kit still works out cheaper. Obviously if you already have a large collection of V1 ships it’s a bit of a nause having to buy 2 upgrade kits, but still better value if you are just getting into epic like I am.

Yup. In your case it works, because you are getting different ships.

The problem comes in if someone say wants to buy 2x V1.0 C-ROCS plus 1 conversion kit. Then things start falling apart.

Slight necro, but this thread seems to be the most appropriate. I finally opened my huge ship conversion kit today.

My expectations based on what made sense was that since the conversion kit was advertised as converting each of your ships, it meant that I could convert and use each of my ships. The reality is that while yes, it does contain dials and tokens and cards and stuff for each ship, the kit only includes two plastic bases, four pegs, and two resource trackers. That means if you are like me and have one of each ship, and I want to use them all, I have to buy 2.5 conversion kits.

Does FFG offer just the plastic bases, pegs, and resource tracker dials for separate purchase? Otherwise this is really a dumb implementation.

Before someone says something along the lines of you don't have enough points to field more than two ships; I have an extension collection and I often provide ships for multiple players. That means I expected to be able to buy a conversion kit and fly all of my ships, not just two.

I actually bought two full conversion kits and got two more bases on the secondary market to convert all of my 6 Epic Ships. :)

I'm going to test the waters when it comes to epic play, if any local players are even interested(there's been a long break over the hollidays and wait for new points), but if we do branch out into epic, I can probably get two C-ROC baseplates simply by trading with other players. Buy a kit each, trade for duplicates. That said I only have 1 C-ROC so far.

I have one CROC template over, but I live in Germany. I don't think that's going to be of much use for you. However, I'm pretty sure the secondary market will cough up one of them soon enough.

I ended up buying a 3rd epic conversion kit when I found a good sale. So I'm set.

I noticed this weekend that the regular conversion kits also had the same issue. The Scum conversion kit only provides 4 medium bases but you would need more than that if you wanted to have one for each ship that required one. Most of us, I am sure, just have a bucket of bases and have more than plenty for small/medium/large ships. Epic ships are a bit more of a challenge.

Ah well, as I mentioned, I solved the problem by throwing more money at it. Which is likely what FFG wants anyway. ;)

Fair enough, the stuff isn't producing itself.

You can always use the base and dial for another faction pretty easy. Does it really matter if it is another faction.
