Quick build cards for Legion

By famado, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey guys, I'm trying to make some quick build cards to use for quicker house games of legion. Like what ffg made for X-wing 2.0.

I'm split between doing this based on points value and doing it based on observed unit strength during matches.

I want to go with the latter but I know that depending on the objectives, a unit's battle value may vary. But on the other hand, some upgrades are better with some units than others so points don't always translate on battlefield impact.

Above all I want to make something that simplifies points counting and gets the game going much faster, but still allows you to quickly customise your army.

At the moment I use tabletop to pre-arrange everything before I have guests over but that doesn't allow my guests to really engage with the game since everything is predefined and they don't build their own army. They just choose sides.

I was thinking of having 2 or 3 different presets for each unit with its correspondent strength value so you could choose either preset depending on your needs. Then you'd just add those simplified values (1 to 8 maybe) up to the agreed upon max.

What do you guys think? Has anyone done this already?

Also, is this stupid?

I like the idea! A unit's battle strength is largely determined by what slot they fill, how many upgrades they have, and how the whole list functions. Combining 3 corps with 2 heavies and 2 commanders might make a bad list, even though each unit could be very strong. In legion, activations, unit control and range control are all very important than the actual strength of the unit on it's own. I think you should include both a point value and a "score" based on how strong they are (8/8 for Vader, a 2/8 for an imperial officer for example) I recommend using FFG's point costs (https://legion-hq.herokuapp.com) because they have a pretty good balance on the game. This will make the list building part of the game much smaller which is nice for most new players or people looking for a quick game. I just use the same list for every game I play.
