Scum Jank.

By Cuz05, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Tonight, we had some games with a pretty leftfield list restriction in place. Scum are the perfect place to construct bizarre edifices that make restrictions sing.

So with- Escort Duty- Only generic pilots. No more than 1 of any ship type. Precisely 1 named crew must be included.

I made this-

A Plan So Cunning....

(45) Lok Revenant [Scurrg H-6 Bomber]
(8) Perceptive Copilot
(6) Proximity Mines
(8) Veteran Turret Gunner
(3) Dorsal Turret
Points: 70

(38) Cartel Marauder [Kihraxz Fighter]
(5) Cloaking Device
(2) Deadman's Switch
Points: 45

(31) Crymorah Goon [BTL-A4 Y-wing]
(0) R5-TK
(5) Proton Bombs
(2) Deadman's Switch
(5) Ion Cannon Turret
Points: 43

(32) Jakku Gunrunner [Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug]
(1) Cikatro Vizago
(2) Deadman's Switch
(2) Electronic Baffle
(5) Pattern Analyzer
Points: 42

Total points: 200

Now I obviously lost both games. The squad is stupid and I did stupid things with it. Such as using the Y Wing to blow up the Khiraxz with the last roll of the game just because it hadn't exploded yet, even though I may have actually been winning till I did that....

But, it was actually a lot more flexible and almost effective than I thought it would be. As well as being riotous fun. So I'm thinking I might tinker with it now the gloves are off, make it something that could be mildly and specifically effective.

Basics. The Quad and Kihraxz come out cloaked and equipped with 3 DMS. The Y chugs off with the spent device, more or less follows them along and does whatever. The Scurrg, well, it kinda flanks, but it's just looking for a favouble joust/turn away and proxy. It should strike properly when things have been muddled, and strike really hard. The cloaked ships have to work as a screen for it. I stumbled into not doing that in the game where it died 1st....

The Good Trick. It's quite amazing how far you can throw that Kihraxz in a turn. Particularly if you don't care that it is now tractored and also went through a rock. So I aim to keep the Quad and Kihraxz, preferably with the same load. Or access to it. It's strangely brilliant.

I actually liked the Scurrg but it's ridiculously expensive. It was in because I picked one up off my 1st oppoment and wanted to try it :D

IG crew, no Proxy would mean the 4th spot is a bit roomier. 1pt more gets Sol ofc. Not sure on going the bomb route there, sensibly or not. But maybe. Seems the ship just ends up expensive for what it is.

If not the Scurrg, I want something kind of tanky, high output.... something that can kind of kite as well as part joust like a monster. Maybe a little manoeuverable. Well, Boba, but there may not be a 4th ship with that. That's the archetype I'm attracted to here anyway, possibly. Raw Bounty Hunter doesn't seem like it will do quite enough, ends up even more expensive if you push it...

And then the 4th spot. The Ion Y was nicely disposable and quietly effective tbh. Enough meat on it that neither opponent wanted to really bother with it, so it just wandered where it wanted and put some work in.

Almost like the Scurrg is the weak link..........

The only real stipulation on the 3rd and 4th ship, (5th?), is an illicit slot for the spent Cloaking Device and 3rd switch.

Honestly, the Quads Switch is just to give Baffle a meaningful endpoint. It's marvellous without exploding. It is a nice trigger for the Kihraxz though.

Initially, I had an Outmanouevre Black Sun Assassin in the build. But just doing opening moves with them on the table at home, it immediately felt like it didn't sit right in the squad. There's not enough protection for an ace like ship, and too many dangerous places to be, even amongst the friendlies. Means it gets hung out and done over.

Just a big fat Boba would surely not work.

Well, uh, this is the weird jigsaw I'm sort of working on then. I don't have a number of Scum ships, like the MTG, Kimo.. Or some in numbers, Quad, Scyk... which restricts some of my own options, but I always have a purchase plan....

I do now have a 2nd Kihraxz..... 3 would start to look familiar.

Please feel free to share other riffs on at least tangentially related things. I feel like inspiration could come from any source at all here :D

My version had bounty hunter with PerCo and proton bombs. Probably didn't need PerCo, and two quadjumpers, both with proton bombs. It was very explosive.

Went 2-0, with the khiraxz exploding right in the middle of every ship in the game in the second one. DMS+proton bombs works well together.

If you're not going the bomb route though, 4-LOM maybe? 4-LOM, AdvSen, title, Zuckuss, Crackshot, Switch: 66 points.

@Cuz05 try dropping the proxies on the Lok for Angled Deflectors and switching out its Per Co for Lando. Reinforce tokens are green tokens so the Lok will at least have a 2 dice re-roll every round it isn't stressed. Ends up being the same cost.

Combination of these 2 posts reminds me of another option that I somehow forgot to think about last night. Zuckuss is a real favourite of mine, I've yet to try him with Angled Lando... that is a real expensive trick though.

This was my quick venture into a restriction free version of the original. A little more Init, matching is helpful on the Tug and Y, and a few more tricks.

Cloaking device is limited. One per list.

Not a big Zuckuss fan personally, but I can see the appeal, he really needs some token stripper buddies to shine though: Old T, Palob, and/or Seevor.

Yeah, I did just catch that, doh.

I'm fine with Zuck shelling 5 locked reds at 5 focussed greens. Variance favours the reds. He has great time on target with AS and Baffle.

I reworked it to this instead. But yes, not sure how this even plays. Apart from clearly suiting a Suicide Squad title.
