Always been a fan of the stolen TIE but can't say I have seen it on a table since 2.0 started. Any lists out there? I would like to see um.
Sabine's TIE . . . Any list suggestions?
From a Rebel perspective, it's lost a lot of its appeal compared to first edition because
- it no longer acts as a cheap crew carrier
- the sheathipede means there is a new, better cheap crew carrier
- the 'best' pilot, Ahsoka Tano, is gone
It's not a bad little unit.
- I think Captain Rex is probably your best place to start; Suppressive Fire either means he draws fire (and 32 points he's expendable-ish) or reduce their damage output against something more important. You can probably find a use for him in any type of squad.
- Ezra is option two. He's got a force token and he's only 32 points. I'd strongly suggest considering him with Sense in a swarm of ships manoeuvrable enough to take advantage (RZ-1 a-wings?).
- Sabine is...so-so. Yes, free boost or roll. Great! but you're still just in a TIE fighter. I guess she can pack Predator and be the same price as Ezra or Rex, but even with Predator she's not exactly going to inspire fear.
- Zeb is kind of irrelevant. Yes, blocking criticals before hits is nice for an unshielded ship. But he's also the same price as Night Beast - whose ability normally translates to having focus/evade and not getting hit in the first place , which is frankly much better.
If you got a high initiative ship with swarm tactics to get rex's ability off early he's worth it. I run him with Swarm Airen and a bunch of z's from time to time. Swarm Wedge 'might' be doable.
@Magnus Grendel is right. As per my post (it's probably still on the first page if you wanna look) Rex is your best choice. It's best to treat him like a seevor, being annoying and shooting whoever you don't want to be attacking an important piece next round.

I flew something like that once, but had Magva instead. It takes very little damage, but also does little damage as well haha. The idea is Saw could help with rerolls once all the damage has been spread.
Anyways, Roark bumps Rex to 7, or someone else if a kill shot is possible. Initial engage though, definitely bumps up Rex.
______
But Roark + Moldy Crow and Rex Tie leaves you with 109 points, so there are definitely a lot of options besides Biggs and Saw.
I've toyed with putting all of the Rebel pilots out in TIE Fighters before, just for the laughs, but it certainly doesn't seem too competitive. Rex definitely seems like he has a place just about anywhere; Ezra would be nice to fill in space, because Force stuff. I may futz around tonight and see what I can come up with.

Rebels lack a centrepiece Howlrunner analogue, but they do have quite a few nice swarm pilots. You can get a nice block of 6 with a few mutual interactions:
-
Airen Cracken (36)
- Swarm Tactics (4)
-
Lieutenant Blount (30)
- Crack Shot (1)
-
Sabine Wren (30)
- Intimidation (3)
-
Ezra Bridger (32)
- Sense (5)
- Captain Rex (32)
- Zeb Orrelios (26)
In theory (!):
-
Ezra's Sense allows you to predict where a critical enemy ship is going.
- Sabine's ability lets her reposition drastically to block it, stopping it getting actions
- Sabine blocking the target reduces its effective agility with intimidation and enables Blount's ability.
- Airen allows Rex to shoot at initiative 5, reducing the effectiveness of an enemy ship
-
Airen also shoots at initiative 5, and allows Blount to perform a free (red) action
- As a result, Blount should be delivering a 3 dice, focus/locked attack against a target with no green tokens and -1 green dice.
Zeb is basically a spare warm body to help Sabine block, or to try and snap off range 1 shots in the process.
- Hera Syndulla (VCX-100): Shield Upgrade, Fire-Control System, Ghost Title
- Ezra Bridger (Tie/ln)
- Sabine Wren (Tie/ln)
- Captain Rex (Tie/ln)
- "Zeb" Orrelios (Tie/ln)
And well... Do pew pew.
Rex is beyond my capacity to think about right now. He seems worse than he was in the old Fairship lists, but maybe not terrible as a distraction piece.
Zeb is probably worse than a Z-95. You could have a Crack Shot Tala at the same price as Zeb, and same initiative. Zeb moves a bit better, but he's probably still at least a little worse.
Sabine has mobility on a shrimpy little ship. 30 points is fairly cheap, though. She'll have the speed to keep up with A-Wings, plus higher initiative than a same-price Phoenix, at the cost of shields. Crack Shot or Predator probably makes a decent filler (at least, no worse than a Phoenix A-Wing), maybe Intimidation if you're good with the blocking.
Ezra is just cheap force. Lack of a Lock action hurts (so you can't really get reroll attacks), but he also probably is about as good as a generic A-Wing filler.

Targeting Computer would only take him up to 35 points.
Sabine
Composure
Targeting Computer

But at that total, you could easily take Arvel, or nearly Jake. I like that Targeting Computer exists, but I don't think it's worth the cost on Ezra. Each marginal point seems like it matters more on cheap filler. Maybe if you really want Sense.
Cross-Faction comparisons are almost always BS, but for 35 points you have a generic Inquisitor which can boost, equip FCS and a Missile, and has 4 rather than 3 health (two of which are shields).
Say... Ezra probably is overpriced. Black Squadron Ace TIE fighter is 26 points. Given the difference between the Baron of the Empire and generic Inquisitor,* Ezra is paying 3 points for the force, and 3 points for some nearly-blank text. Getting double-strength force while stressed is worth probably 1 point which would be a 30 point total.
Two points off of each Rebel TIE would make for some interesting filler. Zeb at 24 is a serious alternative to a Z-95. Sabine and Ezra become that much more tempting compared to A-Wings. There'd still be that 3 hull vs 2 hull 2 shield drawback, but it'd be spicy budget alternative.
*That's a bit shady of me, since Baron might be overpriced, and generic Inq might be underpriced.
I've flown this a handful of times. I think Ezra with Sense and then Arvel to block has mileage. Arvel can cover a lot of space with double re-position.

I think I'd be more inclined to have a cheap Predator Wedge with a just-R2-D2 Luke, but seems OK.
//
Say, Sense Ezra might not be too bad to combine with a Precognitive Luke. With PCR and R2-D2, that'd leave 86 points for either another ace (Corran?) or maybe a pair of generic X-Wings or B-Wings.
I flew this squad this week at our meetup:
Hera (VCX) ; AP-5 ; Sabine + Composure (Tie) ; Rex ; Ezra (Tie)
This allows Hera to have double mods with AP-5 coordinate. My opponent went for Hera first so I was going reinforce + focus for her actions. Took a hull breach from a debris cloud and it went downhill for Hera. However, it took multiple turns to take her down. The Ties were solid in regards to not taking damage but also lack the offense needed without Hera.
