So... how does it work? Do they usally print a new batch of books or that's it? No way to find them?

The "out of stock" note only means that FFG does not have any more available for order through their online ordering system. At this point I am sure their distributors have not all sold out, which means that you should be able to find them either from an online bookseller or a local store (my local gaming store has several of them coming in including the one I pre-ordered in a few weeks). As far as reprints, they done that in the past but I am newer to FFG products than many other people here on this board, and will defer to them on that topic.

Ok. Thanks.

I'm a french player who bought the english version because the translated one has been delayed for nine months and was just released, one year after the Beginner Set. I was lucky enough to find the books in some french online shops until now, but seeing you all saying thr new ones were "out of order" had me panicking.

God, those books are hard to find!

Depressingly, it's usually several months.

I understand why - if the .pdf came out on the same day before actual bricks and mortar stores got their hard copies it'd really hurt gaming stores - but when said gaming store isn't going to order it anyway it is slightly irksome.

Seems more like lip service than anything else, especially considering the webstore physical pre-order rewards on like a years worth of releases, which were much more a competition and much more directly complained about. And I know there are still plenty of oldies who will only buy hard copy anyway, it's just keeping them from receiving my personal money for like a month for no reason. I suppose business wise it works fine to sell the units to stores then it's their problem, but I would have wagered it's much easier to maintain a healthy relationship via products without digital representation (and unlikely to get it with FFG Interactive disbanded) which are most fomented in the gaming store especially with their robust Organized Play, namely the miniature and card game products. They produce content way faster too, especially with the delay on PDFs the RPG is very budget friendly.

Agreed. I got the GM screen, because it's very attractive, but otherwise I'm happy with soft copy. Besides which, being able to print off 3-4 copies of maps -especially maps from within the books, like the 'generic' mansions, castles, etc from Emerald Empire - so every player can conveniently have one, is a great benefit.

Has anyone actually gotten a shipping notice yet? Usually by this point I've received a few about the pre-order being prepped, then shipped for a product this close to the release date.

EDIT: Just got my shipping notification. Hah. They must have been watching this board.

Update

Yeah some copies are already in the wild. A lot of really cool an interesting in here it seems, and surprising (to me) a lot of new tech, mostly kata. I haven't seen much of what fluff it contains but it seemingly must have some decent details on the Qamarist Caliphate and Ivory Kingdoms because they get a couple schools and some special stuff in there.

Can't wait to buy the pdf myself in 10,000 years.

DHL says my Path of Waves book arrives today. I'll give a short review in a few hours.

I just got it. I will say this is the best Book of the entire line right now. THIS is how a sourcebook should be. It goes full-on into areas we havent seen explored, it offers a ton of new stuff to old characters while retaining new options for new characters, and rather than spread itself too thin, it focuses on 2 gaijin nations but gives them a TON of new stuff.

Now, some of the techniques are really, REALLY strong. The combo of one of the new Iaijutsu cuts with one of the new schools, a pattern-forged ivory kingdoms sword etc. will result in a duelist monster, and the archery/ranged stuff can be devastating too.

I think we are now approaching the territory of "gamemaster says no" that we ve had in other RPGs due to tech creep.

But that doesnt matter to me much - i play Exalted and SWRPG, after all ;)

I wish we would get more books of this quality, size and dedication, and its a shame that it seems this may be the last.

I hope not. I can't remember if in previous cases the next sourcebook was announced before the last was published?

If anyone is interested, Path of Waves is no longer out of stock at FFG's online sales portal. I guess it was only the pre-order copies that were sold out and that this is the main inventory tranche.

Path of Waves was announced after Courts of Stone. I can't quite remember the trend before that though.

I had seen the Path of Waves announcement before I picked up my CoS, but living in europe means release dates can vary a lot, so it might have been a different order in the US. My main concern comes from the mixture of silence about new product for over half a year now, in combination with past cases of such behaviour by FFG pretty much always ending with cancellation (Runewars Minis, Imperial Assault, Black Crusade even before the licensing deal fell through, some LCGs, SW: Destiny most recently) as FFG doesnt like to communicate its cancellations until the last possible moment.

Of course, there is really enough material out there to play. But I have a hard time seeing an additional 4-5 books in this line for the "missing" clans.

But one can hope ;)

Has anyone picked up the adventure too? After the disappointment with Winters Embrace and Mask of the Oni, I am skipping this one.

If they want do to material, they will. Not an issue.

Though, I am not sure the game is bringing in numbers like they expected... I think it is actually a failure when you feel the pulse of the current ttrpg "vibe and trend". l5r 5e is almost invisible for an FFG product with such a gorgeous prod.

If you were the boss.. what would you do ? Keep going with it out of honor, duty and loyalty to the l5r small playerbase?

I just received Path of Wave and Sin of Regret. Path of Wave is absolutely gorgeous and is gonna be a great help for my rônin player, for whom we didn't have a lot of options until now.

Path of Waves really is good. There are so many options for building a non-Clan-Samurai. There is one which seems wrong though. The Military Upbringing is mechanically identical to the Law Enforcement one. I'm not sure where ashigaru pick up Government, but I could see a Martial skill instead.

But aside from that there's the table on pg 179 listing a bunch of different things people might hire a ronin to do, ranging from lantern-bearer (1 bu/week) to assassination (10 Koku/target) and covering tax-collectors, levy trainers and extortion. In fact, the only thing which I really see as missing is being an entertainer of some sort. It also shows how common these tasks are and which skill group is likely to be used. To add to that, there's a table on the next page listing multipliers and likely jobs for the great clans.

Sins of regret looks great. I love the wolf, too. Something I'll have to throw in, especially since they've met Kitsune in the campaign.

I have to say the L5R artwork is probably the best I've seen for any RPG.

Luckily you can still use the phrase "Edge of the Empire"

Sins of Regret still appears as out of stock...

Does anyone know where the link for the new Game of Twenty Questions and Character Sheets are? I looked in player resources but it isn’t there yet.
