Clues

By alboy, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

During a Mythos phase when a Clue token appears at The Unnamable & there is a gate, a monster or a gate & a monster at that location can the Clue token be placed.

Also if there is a Character on that space can they take the token immediately, if the answer is yes & there are a number of Characters on the space & they all want it, is it up to the first player to decide who gets it.

A clue cannot appear on a location with an open gate. Monsters are irrelevant.

You only pick up a clue when you end your movement on that location. SO even if there are already people on that location, the first person to end their movement there gets the clue.

Actually that's not quite true: if a clue token appears on an investigator during Phase 5: Mythos, the investigator can choose to take the clue immediately.

Also, whenever an investigator moves onto a space with clues, s/he may choose to take some or none of them if s/he so preferred.

Thanks, l have just found the answer myself on Page 10 of the rule book under No2. Place Clue Token.

1) Thanks Brine. You are correct to say no Clue token is placed if there is a gate present, monsters are irrelevent.

2) Thanks Tibs. You are correct. l just read that a Character on the location can take the Clue token immediately it is placed on that location.

Wow, I did not know that. Definitely will have to remember that in the future.

That's nice to know, I already played that an investigator picks up clues that apppear on him but I always assumed it was a house rule I use (I use many house rules). good to know it's a real rule (not really actually, rules mean little to me. I don't like the players who must play 100% by the book)

It is a real rule, but I also extend that favor to clues appearing on top of an investigator during any other phase (placed by the Hypnos guardian, for example) just to maintain consistency.

all right, here's what I do. ok, clue tokens DO NOT appear on open gates, even if a dude is there waiting to seal it. but if there is no open gate, then yes, of course put a clue there. and if a investigator is standing on that location WITH NO GATE THERE, then, he/she gets the clue token. but I don't blame you for the confusion, i used to put the clues on gates all the time!

Right, an investigator couldn't collect the clue before it "hit" the gate and was removed—it just doesn't appear in the first place.
