Can Huge ships equip 2 of the same hardpoint or turret?

By Vontoothskie, in X-Wing

If anyones had a peep at the new epic rules, I have a question for list building regarding gunships in the soon to be released epic. So my question is this: can you equip multiple of the same hard-point and fire each one as a unique attack(following all other requirements) or is the "only one of each upgrade" thing in effect here?

clearly Huge sized gunships will want to perform numerous attacks, and to do this you'll want to load em up with your fav hard-points etc and blaze away. but One thing that is immediately obvious is that huge ships can have multiple of the same slots, for example 2 turrets on the scum Gozanti with the corsair retrofit and merchant one. so is the choice 1 of each turret? or can you double up? and if you have a dorsal turret and a ion turret, do they share an arc orientation? its a weird new frontier

I'm pumped for some Blazin Bro'zanti Broadsides but this question is killin me!

The rules reference Pdf is up on the xwing page.

I just went to double check before I answer incorrectly, but I did not see any exceptions for huge ships. Ergo, I would presume that you are limited to one of each upgrade card to a ship, even with two of the same slot type.

Regarding arcs, depends on which ones are assigned to what. There are two colors for arc indicators in the huge ships. So you place a new included token to remind everyone on the upgrade card that corresponds to that arc. So they could be on separate mobile arcs or the same one, your choice.

Is this a new thing for 2.0?

Sheesh. I also have been doing Force, Evade and Cluster Missiles wrong, too.

I don't play for a year and I'm totally lost. I'm beginning to feel like my approach to 2.0 is. . .

it was a rule in 1.0 for modifications at least.

thats why you couldn't put 3 stealth devices on a khiraxz or 2 on Soontir fell

I think picking back up into second edition feels more like Fett crawling out of the sarlacc pit.

Like, you know kinda what your doing, you can still do some badass stuff, but coming out of the guts of the sarlacc pit (read: dumpster fire) that was end of first edition would leave anyone a little... Disoriented, let's say.😝

Point of order: in 1e the Vaksai And Royal Guard titles had a line on the card that said up to so many different modifications, therefore you could not equip multiples of the same modification.

Throughout the broader 1e you could have any number of each upgrade as long as it didn't have the Limited keyword in its text box which was errata'd onto Tactician shortly after the YV-666 came out with its 3 crew allowing triple stress Tactician builds.

Yes, in 2e there is a general rule in the Rules Reference (1.0.6) p20 in the Upgrade Cards section which reads: "• A ship cannot equip more than one copy of the same card." This has been in 2e rules since the first version.

To further update your general info: what used to be a "unique dot" in 1e is now the Limited (RR p13) bullet and the number of dots indicates how many of that ship/upgrade can be used across the entire squad. Several Droid fighters/bombers have more than one Limited Bullet on their pilot cards. One such example is Precise Hunter, which you can field up to 3 of because it has 3 limited bullets:

It makes sense for this kind of spamming, but then seems weird to not be able to use 2 of the same kind of missile, bomb, or torpedo.

For 2e X-wing, FFG seems reluctant to make exceptions of this kind 😕

They got around that by having multiple charges, and ships that can reload. No need to pay for two Proton Torpedoes or Seismic Bombs when the card no longer says discard after use, and already comes with an extra shot baked in. If anything, it has led to people trying ordnance combos, and greater loadout variation.
