1. Each player must bring one Order and one Destruction deck.

Sounds like fun, Just one question: How will you decide who goes first?

I purchased this game today...so I will probably play at kublacon =D

Hopefully it will be newb friendly, but I should have the rules down by then

Random

Not really... I am assuming we are all under the impression that destruction decks are more powerful than order decks (which is why you are using this format). Since this is not the normal (best 2 out of 3) format then you will only play 1 game with a destruction deck and 1 game with an order deck. Also, scoring damage and setting on fire your opponent's capital gives you points (even if you lose). This makes going first even more critical

Time for the example:

Example #1:
Let's say my opponent and I flip a coin and I go first with my destruction deck. I end up killing him pretty quickly and he only does 4 damage to my capital. Next game, roles are reversed and he does the same thing to me (assuming we are evenly matched). So we both roughly have the same score.

Example #2:
Now, what if I had gone second with my Destruction deck? He would have gotten more damage (maybe even burned my capital) which would have given him more points in the tournament than in the previous example. Yet, since he still lost he gets to go first again, now with his destruction deck. I only score 4 points because I am in the exact position I was in the previous example. Now my opponent has 15 more points that I do, because he won the coin toss.

While we are both evenly matched, he gets 15 more points than I do just because he went first in the first game. Because this format is different than others, I think changing how first player is determined should be taken under consideration.

If this at all changes your mind then may I suggest having the player who is using the order deck go first.

Point well taken. I will take your suggestion and modify it slightly: Order player has choice of going 1st or 2nd. You and I believe that even without the draw the 1st player has an advantage, but I will let the Order players make up their own minds.

This is interesting.

I've only been playing for a few months with one other person, but is destruction really OP enough to warrant handicapping them for the format?

I am aware that this is evident all over the forum, but usually the vocal majority of an online community only ends up as the minority as far as actual tournaments go. (At least, that's how it was in AGOT in its golden years.) Who knows? Someone may be bringing the pain with Order.

I think the easiest way to solve your problem would be a fixed point amount for winning, and a fixed amount for losing. That way aggressive factions like Orc won't have the natural advantage against more passive or control oriented factions, as far as points for the loser are concerned.

Anyway, I wont make it up until saturday night, but I hope some of you guys will still be around to play. I'd like to get some more experience under my belt this weekend.

I should be able to make it.
