Newb starting clones (would this be OK?)

I have the clones form 2 cores plus one extra expansion clone troopers.
With only those models; would this be OK to start out with?
(looking for fun to learn the game with. Competitive might get tacked on later ;) )

Obi-Wan Kenobi (175 + 29 = 204)

--Force Reflexes (10), Hope (3), Aggressive Tactics (10), Endurance (6)

6x Phase I Clone Troopers (52+13+30 = 95)
Incl. DC-15 Phase I Trooper

6x Phase I Clone Troopers (52+13+30 = 95)
Incl. DC-15 Phase I Trooper

6x Phase I Clone Troopers (52+13+25 = 90)
Incl. Z-6 Phase I Trooper

6x Phase I Clone Troopers (52+13+25 = 90)

Tried to max out on troopers. (Anything counts in large amounts)
The upgrades on Obi-Wan I copied form others. (assuming they knew best)
11 points left. No clue what (if anything at all) would be worthwhile.

Really nice list super similar to what I've been using for the clones. As far as the 11 extra points go, I'd get frag grenades on one or both of your Z-6 units depending on how much of a bid you want. Frag grenades can be really great to combine with fire support giving the whole attack surge to crit especially with the Z-6 units and it's surprising how easy it is to be able to get into range 1 safely especially with objectives like key positions or intercept the transmissions.

My one recommendation would be to get a heavy weapon in the last Clone Trooper unit. The extra value they add to units vastly outweighs what the extra basic Trooper adds, so I would suggest dropping two of the extra troopers to add either a DC-15 or Z-6.

Is dropping 2 bodies for one extra heavy weapon worth it?

Absolutely. You lose 1 wound, but the Z-6 has triple the average damage of a base Phase I with a DC-15A. The DC-15 is even better since it has Critical 1 which applies to the entire attack pool, and also gives you a Range 4 option, but it is of course more expensive.

So I'd make it into this:

--DC-15 Phase I Trooper (30)

2x Phase I Clone Troopers (52 + 25 = 77)

2x BARC Speeder (75)

This leaves 52 points. 4 more clone troopers over 5 units? something else?

I'd add another squad of clones. It's only 4 bodies but it gives you another activation, more tokens to share and a unit to hold objectives near or in your deployment zone.

Edit: Forgot OP said he only had 5 squads total. For the 6th squad use 4 of the extra clones from the squads and designate one as the leader.

This would be my suggestion as well. I'd also reccomend tenacity over endurance. Endurance might be worth bringing back if your local groups love Dewbacks, Barrage Generator E-webs, and Shoretrooper mortars, but with a courage of e I don't think Obi-wan needs suppression removed often in most environments.

Agreed. I was looking at the last list OP posted, trying to figure out how to get Tenacity on Obi-Wan. My thought was to drop one of the DC-15s and use the 30 points for an extra trooper on the naked squads and Tenacity for Obi-Wan. I'm a newb at Legion myself and really don't know if this is a good idea. I'll definitely be giving it a try once I get my army painted though. However, if OP wants to do this they'll need to either buy a squad box or wait till the Phase 1 expansion pack comes out.

Ah. I didn't notice endurance had already been cut. I think I'd leave the list with just the 6th squad. I'm not crazy about the BARCs*, but there's not much the OP can do about that for now.

*Cost issue aside, speeder bikes will live and die by activation control... which the clones are hogging for fire support and surge tokens. The BARC just does not fit in the Republic list, in my eyes.

Unfortunately we really have no other options right now other than BARCs to back up the clones. We're stuck with them until the Saber comes out.
