Tips for humans

By BigFatChris, in Battlestar Galactica

On average the cards in the Quorum deck are too weak.

It strengthens the Human side a lot if the president instead uses their actions to order other human characters. And never, ever moves to Colonial One.

A couple of players in our group adopted a strategy of never using those cards. The only time the humans have lost with that strategy was a couple of times when the Admiral was an undertected Psilon at New Caprica. And once when the other players voted in a new president who did proceed to waste time drawing Quorum cards.

It's true that my group rarely uses Quorum cards, unless the humans are already winning the game, or they're digging for something. Sometimes Morale and/or Food is low, or a person is jailed and freeing them normally just isn't in the cards, or we could really use an authorization of brutal force...

By and large, we only draw quorum cards in the 'idle' parts of the game. Sometimes it pays off, because there are cards that deal with things that are just tough or expensive to deal with (Authorization of Brutal Force, or Pardon). Stuff like Cylon Mugshots rarely pays off, because there are so few turns before one can dedicatedly draw, and then use the card before the sleeper phase.

Oh, and Baltar is never allowed to draw Quorum cards. Ever. People with two loyalty cards to start are shifty.

Presumably your not playing with the pegasus board. The engine room on pegagus is always a strong option if there's nothing else to do.

Our group believes that the pegasus engine room hosts a permanent poker game, because the entire crew is there whenever they have nothing urgent to do.

Too true :D I've seen Baltar use his once per game ability to check the admiral's psilon cards. Declare the admiral was a Psilon & hence should be shot. With the net result that the crew shot Baltar.

Re: Pegasus; No, we don't use the pegasus board, but for other reasons. The execution mechanic is problematic and dumb, and the weapons locations on the pegasus leave the cylons with very little chance if a player is using Kat (or even Helo), or someone has drawn a strategic planning. In our games, cylons have enough trouble as it is.

Re: Baltarr; Mostly, we don't like more arrest orders in the hands of someone who is more likely to be a cylon than anyone else. It's dangerous.
