I have not played droids yet any advice?

By Orcdruid, in Army Building

Like I said, I have not played droids yet and I'm looking to see if there are any weaknesses in my list that I may have overlooked. For this list I plan on setting up the B1's in 2 unit fire-teams; one with the electrobinoculars, one without.

Grievous: Since the B1's aren't affected by suppression they are less reliant on getting those big rally rolls as long as they remain below 4 suppression. So strict orders is there in-case I absolutely need to remove that 1 suppression token. I took tenacity over hunter because I am bad at setting hunter up and Grievous seems built to be in the fray so getting that extra red die will happen by default most of the time. For aggressive tactics and the pistol these two should seem pretty obvious, the list lacks natural surges and Grievous lacks a built in ranged weapon.

B1's: My goal is to mitigate AI: Attack as much as possible. The plan of action here is to give orders to Grievous and the droidekas, then when I pull B1's from the bag to activate the ones with the binoculars first to spotter the ones without. That way at least half of them get aimed shots.

Droidekas: The general game plan for the droidekas is to activate them late in turn one and get into a good position with wheeled mode. In turn 2 lay down suppressive fire. In turn 3 die, hopefully after activating.

Have you seen the article about perfect activation control? With the B1's passing tokens it is (with practice) not to difficult to put tokens on all of the B1's (mitigating the AI issue.)

Can anyone find a Link to that article again? I can't find it.

Give them at least 2 E-60R, or vehicles will eat you alive

I haven’t played 800pts with them yet, but personally I would try having 2 E-60Rs and stapling HQ Uplink to those units.

In a 500pt game, I found the extra firepower helpful against more than just vehicles. The HQ Uplinks will nearly guarantee you get to chain all your droids. There are times they may get out of range 1 from each other and your enemy should be trying to accomplish this, so the HQ Uplinks are a good fallback plan if this happens. Activation control is key!

Electrobinoculars are great, but HQ Uplink is better for droids overall.

General Grievous (175 + 33 = 208)

B1 Battle Droids (36 + 24 = 60)

Droidekas (100 + 0 = 100)

Droidekas (100 + 5 = 105)
--Linked Targeting Array (5)

I like Hunter on Greivous but can see your reasoning for Tenacity, others like Endurance because of his low courage value for a commander. The E-60R heavy weapon and HQ uplink really help with coordinate droid trooper. I you hold the Droidekas back and use them for flanking for just one turn, their shields and suppressive fire power make them difficult to remove. If you expose them too early or center them on the map, they will die fast

link to the article mentioned earlier, worth a read for running Droids

Am I mad for thinking of dumping the droideka and running grevious light for dooku with reflexes, force guidance , and aggressive tactics?

People have been running Dooku/Grievous on TTS, so it can't be that crazy.
