How do you organise your cards? UPDATED

By Spartan_Dude, in X-Wing

Hey guys and dolls,

What are your ways or organisng cards in a card binder? Particularly upgrade cards. I have a million of them and not sure how to go about it.

Update: I have manage to organise everything using two card binders. One for pilots and the other for upgrades. And let me tell you, the upgrades cost me my will to live. And when I need to alter the alphabetical order due to new cards I will likely strip naked and run through the streets shouting 'The Swedish are coming!'

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Broken token card organizer that fits in a hobby lobby artist case.

I have four card binders, though it'll likely soon be five with the way things are going.

I keep pilots in two, organised as rebels/imperial in one, and everything else in the other (more because it worker out evenly that way in the conversion, rather than any allegiance to a faction). They're each broken down by ship type and organised by initiative value.

Upgrades go in the other two, split into talents/abilities/personnel, and weapons/mods/equipment. Basically a folder of people things, and a folder of ship things. They're then organised by type, generics, faction locked (each faction gets a page), and unique.

I also only keep a maximum of nine of any upgrade (one full binder page) sleeved and ready, because I highly doubt I'm ever going to need more than nine Proton Torpedoes and nine Outmaneuver. The "extras" go into a box, and usually end up being handed off to new players just starting a collection.

Cards aren't the hard part of getting organised, really. It's the base chits and dials that take some real creative thinking. The dials I've got down. The base chits though, I definitely need to revisit that.

I use 9 card sleeve binder.

Upgrades in front by upgrade type.

Then ships by faction in order of pilot skill per ship (ships type order is random)

Behind each run of of ships is faction specific upgrade cards

The very back is pages of condition cards and quick builds.

Everything (5 factions) is in one massive binder. I would absolutely suggest two binders, but so far it's working well.

What @irdonny said.

Or just make a giant pile of cards and toss them in a Ziploc bag.

Or, I've seen guys go out of their way to scan or find digital scans of cards, align them on a Word doc, and print their squads out on a single sheet of paper so they never have to touch their cards.

Up to you, man.

I use a combination of binders and a card box.

Binder is roughly alphabetical by upgrade type. I'm not too fussy. But only like 6-9 copies of an upgrade, usually like 3 multiples per cell within the 9-pocket. Once I've got more than that, they go into the card box which has all the excess copies of like Juke and (didn't think I'd say it right away) Afterburners and most kinds of missiles.

I don't keep stuff sleeved (except flip-configurations which always live in clear-on-both-sides sleeves), but will pull the cards I want for a list and sleeve as needed.

One binder is upgrades, one is Empire/Scum/Rebel, the other is the other 4 factions. I'll keep titles and configurations and ship-exclusive upgrades like Impervium Plating or Special Forces Gunner with the ships.

I just use card-boxes and District Foundry's plastic dividers. I pull cards when I need them for tournaments, but otherwise I just use a YASB printout.

Currently I have a box for upgrades, a box for pilots, and a box for stuff I can trade. (Like, seriously, 800 more upgrade cards than I need.)

I'm so happy the cards are all one size now. (Well, except those early Quick Build promo cards. What up with that?)

I bought a three-row trading cards box and a bunch of dividers. Fits easily in my main storage case.

Three BCW card boxes. Two for the cards I will potentially use (applicable number of limited pilots then up to however many generics could fit in a list) then one box for all my extra pilots and upgrades stored in my basement. Pilots organized by faction first - Republic, CIS, Rebel, Empire, Resistance, FO, Scum. Then ship type alphabetically, then by Initiative high to low and if there are pilots with the same initiative, alphabetically.

For upgrades, I sort them by type then alphabetically. I keep one of each limited in the box and 4-6 of non limited upgrades. I like keeping "like" upgrade types together i.e. Talents next to Force, or Turrets by Cannons, devices by missiles and torpedoes

Binder. Only one, but it’s pretty full.

Faction, ships by alpha, pilots by Initiative then alpha.

Upgrades by type, then faction specific, then generic upgrades.

Organize cards?!

Hahahahhahahahahaha

thats funny.

Ditched the binders. I got tired of having to redo them each time something new needed alphabetized into the collection. Standard trading card boxes with dividers.

I have:

  • card box full of upgrade cards
  • card box full of pilot cards
  • small card box full of device cards sleeved together with the device tokens (proximity mines are loose, as they are too big for a sleeve)
  • cardboard box with dividers for ship bases
  • three aluminium foil boxes for dials

I keep these all together in a larger box. It's very easy to manage and doesn't take up too much space

One card box for each faction, includes pilot and faction-locked upgrades

Two boxes for upgrades

A large transparent plastic storage box for each factions' ships; stored along with the ships are Ziploc bags with all the base tokens, dials, and turret arc indicators for one ship type

I have a binder for all my upgrade cards, and I keep them in two-sided card pages, separated by category and in alphabetical order. It's a little bit annoying when I get new cards since I have to move everything over in that particular category to accommodate the new alphabetical location but it's really not that time consuming since it's limited by category and when it would "spill over" into another category I just insert a new page in between. If I really wanted to be lazy I could just keep spillover pages between arbitrary alphabetical break points and just let the cards naturally fill in with minimal adjustments to add new ones.

I keep my pilot cards, ship tokens, and dials in individual binders as well by faction, with the ship tokens for small and medium bases kept with their cards, which are then organized more by which generic pilot is on the back of which unique pilot rather than a more traditional Initiative ordering. I also keep a few relevant upgrade cards, mostly configurations and titles, in with their relevant pilot cards.

sometimes I wonder about just switching to long card boxes at least for the upgrades but it hasn't happened yet

9-card sleeve sheets and a binder.

I use a large "shoebox"-style card box. Upgrades one side, divided alphabetically by type (subdivided by faction for crew and gunners), arranged alphabetically within each section. Ships on the other side, divided by faction, then alphabetically by ship type, arranged by initiative value within each section.

Binder for all the pilot/ship cards, classifield by faction

Binder for upgrades, classified by upgrade type

New binder for epic and upgrades for epic ships

As for all the other stuff, I use stanley tool organisers.

I've switched from binders to a card box sorted by faction and upgrades.

Than I have smaller box that holds the squads I've been actively using or intend to run.

I have binders and sleeves. One for all pilots and one for all upgrades, organized by faction.

Sleeves. In the main album I keep only 3 copies of each upgrade unless a few exceptions that can be used at big amounts.

Binder split by upgrade type for all the upgrades; as many cards that will fit into a binder page sleeve for duplicates until it spills over to an adjacent slot (ten million Trick Shots, etc).

Binder for Imp, Rebel, and Scum ship pilots, and recently a binder for FO & Resistance pilots. Haven't invested in Sep/Republic so no binder there yet.

I only sleeve my damage deck, as I don't mind wear& tear on other components... I do miss my first edition Interceptor dials with the worn-away thumbprints.

Card boxes for pilots, sorted by faction and sleeved, that fit into my main plano case. Binder for all of the upgrade cards.

Card Binders are the worst as every new card means a complete reorg of your system. I went with card boxes and haven't looked back.

I've never had that problem with my binders, but I put a system in place from the start that allowed for easier adaptation. The consequence is there ends up being a bit of empty space in some of the pages that aren't full. If you're ok with that, it's actually really easy to maintain and search. It is, however, bulkier than if you were to have them all in a box. Of that, I'm pretty certain.
