Bobba/Fenn

By federalchipmunk1980, in X-Wing Squad Lists

hi all

im after some ideas for a list with the above in, ive never really ventured into Scum, but love ht look of these two and would like to try and come up with a competitive list using these guys

i have an idea in mind, but would also like some input form you guys who have run a list with these, or generally play scum

thanks in advance guys :)

This is a pretty conventional version of the list. And yes that's a 17 point bid, you can go lower with 13 point bid to give Fenn Outmaneuver, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

Boba Fett (85)
Crack Shot (1)
Maul (12)
Proton Bombs (5)
Deadman's Switch (2)
Shield Upgrade (6)
Slave I (2)

Ship total: 113 Half Points: 57 Threshold: 6

Fenn Rau (68)
Predator (2)

Ship total: 70 Half Points: 35 Threshold: 2

Total: 183

Just be plenty aware that it's a list that requires some pretty obsessive practice to "git gud" with. You'll probably lose a LOT before you start winning. That said, you can kit these guys out just about any way you like. Both pilots and ships are strong and versatile. @Cerebrawl 's list above is solid - and a massive bid (+/-15) is competitively a necessity. Casual night? Don't worry about the bid. I reckon were I to fly the above list, I'd just swap out both Talents for Fearless and call it a day. Let us know how you get on!

im runnin 14 - 22 pt bid on my jedis atm so im fine with that if needed - would you guys also go for bobba over maybe Guri and other stuff? etc etc

thanks

Boba/Fenn, Boba/Guri, Fenn/Guri - it's all much of a muchness. They are the three best pilots available to Scum, but each are expensive and prone to variance - even Boba. They can be terrifically deadly, or just die in a fire. It's not a style with which I am comfortable, although I have dabbled after seeing how well others have done *cough* PhilGC *cough* But I'm far too casual to put in the reps required to get a handle on the style, far too easily distracted by all the other shiny toys in my toy box. Scum pilots generally fly in a manner that is effectively solo, and tend to struggle a bit against the super-efficient synergizing 4+/- lists available to Rebel/Republic/Imperial, and running any of the above combos really doubles down on that situation.

seems like a pretty good summary tbh lol

Another note about Boba/Fenn is there should be a ton of YouTube videos out there with this list. Watch and see how players approach different list archetypes.

yea, im going to have a look tonight

thanks

A few made day 2 cut at worlds. This is the one that beat me:

Boba + Hull Upgrade, Maul, Fearless, Slave I, Proxy Mines, Jamming Beam

Fenn + Crackshot

I ran a fearless Fenn with lone wolf boba, seismics, marauder, Dengar Gunner, perceptive co pilot and went 4/2 missing the cut at a Hyperspace. My losses were to ace builds which I’m fixing by making a much slimmer boba. It’s a surprisingly good archetype and is likely to remain my Hyperspace list for some time.

ironically, i have just watched that list in a worlds game on Youtube lol

I often wonder if going slimmer on the two big boys, and including a 3rd ship, might not be fruitful. Fenn with Predator and Boba with PerCo and Slave I leaves room for Seevor with TS?

I might go with something like this for a two-ship list. Elusive lets Boba use Maul's Force token on the offense a bit more, the ship title and Inertial Dampeners gives some dial shenanigans, and Fenn gets some extra teeth with the Advanced torps, all with a 12-point bid still remaining:

Boba Fett (85)
Elusive (3)
Tractor Beam (2)
Maul (12)
Inertial Dampeners (7)
Slave I (2)

Ship total: 111 Half Points: 56 Threshold: 5

Fenn Rau (68)
Fearless (3)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)

Ship total: 77 Half Points: 39 Threshold: 2

Total: 188

For a 3-ship list like @Greebwahn mentioned , I'd likely just throw Unkar Plutt at them myself:

Boba Fett (85)
Elusive (3)
Jamming Beam (0)
IG-88D (3)

Ship total: 91 Half Points: 46 Threshold: 5

Fenn Rau (68)
Fearless (3)

Ship total: 71 Half Points: 36 Threshold: 2

Unkar Plutt (33)
Feedback Array (4)

Ship total: 37 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 3

Total: 199

Alternatively drop Slave 1 to give Fenn Rau Predator. To quote @muppetfluffer "THAT's a list!"

I still think perceptive copilot is better than Maul. I’m probably wrong, but being able to have a 1 point bid and fearless on fenn seems better to me.

Maul is insurance, so that you're never caught with no forcus mods, ie: while being blocked, touching obstacles, as well as while boosting or taking target locks.

PerCo is cheaper and gives you better quality forcus, but it's blockable and forces you to perform the focus action for it.

It's why I went with IG-88 crew in my 3-ship list. Not as good as Perceptive Copilot, but cheaper and still offers some dice mods + Fearless for Fenn.

Force is damned powerful, no doubts there.

One of our locals won a 20+ Hyperspace tournament with Boba/Fenn.

I can't remember his Boba build specifically, other than the Slave title and Perceptive copilot, but it was Fenn with Outmaneuver and Boba at 100+ points.

I believe his bid was also around 15.

I need to get better at flying 2-ship lists. I'm decent with Vader + RAC, but not stellar. This dude sounds amazing.

He's tried several different ace builds, but seems to have settled on this one.

He's definitely put some time in with it, though.

You have to when you're playing Fenn. Your margin for error with him is around 0. :D
