Will the Barc speeders and Droidekas sets released this week have anything new?

By Ranker, in Star Wars: Legion

For those of us who purchased two core sets already (but yet to open since I'm deployed overseas), is there any reason to purchase the stand alone expansion packs? Will there be cards/upgrades only available in those boxes that were not found as part of the core set?

Nothing that isn't in the card pack. It's clearly better to just get 3 Core sets instead of the unit expansions, unless you really really have to have Smoke grenades RIGHT NOW (they are coming with Rex and the Phase 1 upgrade pack).

Or a BARC speeder with BARC Trooper helmets...

Sure, if that floats your boat. Does the Droideka expansion come with anything like that for those who are more disposed towards the arts?

Not according to the announcement article (emphasis mine): "Four finely detailed, unpainted Droideka miniatures identical to those found in the Star Wars: Legion Clone Wars Core Set represent your Droidekas as they speed across the battlefield in wheel mode and unleash suppressive fire in their attack configuration."

So it isn't a cosmetically different?

Good thing I checked the thread one last time. I was just about to purchase one. Thanks for saving me $!

Going off the article, no difference. I don't have one in hand to confirm, but usually cosmetic differences are a selling point.

I'm not really sure what they could have even done to differentiate the droidekas, but I'm sure I'm overlooking something.

LTA is int he cardpack!?!?!?!?!?!?

We've known exactly which cards are in the Upgrade Card Pack since the day it was announced and people are still asking what's in it after it's been released.

I just didn't really care as in my head it was basically just the 2 core sets cards

The barc speeder announcement article states that there are different sculpts (maybe just helmets) for the clones in these sets. This is something that I'm interested in and the reason I was going to buy an additional barc speeder. However, I'm a bit worried that may not be the case because the available now article (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/11/1/available-now-november-1/) says they are identical and even says Phase I clone gunner. I hope I can still get the barc speeder helmets since they are my favorite clone helmet

Worst case, you should be able to get the BARC helmets off of shapeways.

It looks like both articles for the BARC Speeder expansion (Manufactured Might and today's Available Now) are suffering from FFG article inaccuracy. The first article says the expansion is different from the core set, the second article says they are identical. Also, the Crew upgrades in the card spread are identical to the Core Set upgrades, but the article states that you can mount a Medium Blaster (which is a different weapon entirely).

At this point, best bet is to hope someone posts an unboxing video later today

I contacted customer service with my question and got a reply back already:

They communicated that the stand alone expansion do in fact have different sculpts for the helmets and the news article has been updated.

So that's cool. I'll go ahead and pick it up

The expansion release speeder comes with BARC helmets only (no regular phase 1 helmets).

Can anyone confirm that the BARC Speeder standalone expansion actually comes with different components?

It does. I opened mine up and checked. The difference is that all torso and head sculpts are different.

  • Three torsos (2 gunner options and 1 pilot) have a strap and shoulder pad like barc speeder clones in ep. III.
  • Three barc speeder ep. III helmets (2 with visor and 1 without) - these could be put on any clone mini really either this set or phase I clones. I may use one with a visor for one of my phase I unit leaders
