There wasn't a connection to him like a lot of the older fans may have...
Let's not cast the issue as generational. I know a good many younger fans who love the original trilogy and prequels and the characters in them. A fan is a fan and many, irrespective of age, take a holistic view of the lore. Its all Star Wars. Sure, we may see some trends based on age, but overall, its not just us (apparently) old folks. My daughters are very big on Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Luke Sywalker, and a lot of their friends are, too. We all like Rey a good deal as well (even us decrepit aged folks) and I like Poe a good deal more than I like Han (despite having a gray beard). Now, I do admit that, as someone for whom the original trilogy was a central part of their childhood entertainment, that there very much was a "Team Luke" and a "Team Han" back in the day. And, I was very much on Team Luke. I wanted to be Luke Skywalker when I grew up. I was never a Han Fan and didn't cry or gasp when Kylo killed him. But, for all that, I still think Solo was a great, and underrated Galactic Scum & Villainy film. It just wasn't much of a Star Wars movie!
