Xenos careers in "Into the Storm"

By arkiva, in Rogue Trader

Eldars, Taus...???

No one knows except the people that know (like the authors and the playtesters), and until either FFG say what xenos are in it, or the book is released, me and the other playtesters and the authors aren't allowed to say.

Ok, thanks from Spain!

Pure speculation, but I would seriously doubt Tau in the galactic north west. Hints make Ork Freebooters or Blood Axe Mercenaries seem a likely option. Eldar and Kroot are the two other possibilities from the "main" races (though FFG may go with either a race of their own creation or one of the more minor races).

So perhaps a Stryxis Junk Dealer? Interesting idea - but a little NPC for my tastes.

The Tau are really unlikely. It's the wrong part of the galaxy and a Tau doesn't have much to offer a Rogue Trader as a member of his crew as opposed to as a trading partner. Kroot mercenaries and Outcast Path Eldar are my leading guesses, as both will work for humans and bring unusual skills/abilities to the table.

Well, since it says Xeno's Careers and not "races" it could be just Eldar with two options for a career as said alien (or Kroot, or whoever). If you see my point; it could be two careers for one race and not two playable races. Just my two cents of total speculation on the topic.

You must find these topics a good laugh Milly me old boy watching all the speculation, and at the same time I bet incredibly frustrating in that you can't talk.

My own thoughts are Eldar might be a good chance, I mean look at all the Eldar work that's been done already; we have Eldar Dire Avengers & Exarchs, Rangers & Pathfinders, an Autarch (well that's pretty much what Ulthyr Ellarion falls under I guess), Wraithguard (obviously not really a playable char), Warlocks and Farseers.

Can't of been much of a step to develop some of that into a career happy.gif

You've hit the nail right on the head. It's really quite interesting to see what random stuff people will come up with when speculating, and I really wish I could join in. I guess it's just one of those sacrifices you have to make to be involved with trying to make the game-line better.

Its mentioned pretty sneaky in the teaser, my guess...

2 Careers....3 races (Ork, Eldar, Kroot)

If there are only two careers....and two races, one for each?

Eldar Corsair
Ork Freebootah

I'm going to guess:

Ork Freeboota

Kroot Mercenary

Although Santiago's idea of 3 races and 2 classes isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

If this is the case my guess at the classes would be:

Xenos Pirate

Xenos Mercenary

Since the wording is "Plus, play as a character from beyond the Imperium with two all-new xenos Careers." That doesn't say a thing about how many races we will be seeing. They could easily include alternate levels for each of the xenos classes to custom fit them to each race they add.

The wording leads me to believe it will be two "Xenos" classes and maybe a group of Origin packages to make for the 3 main species people clamor for.

But we will not know until more DDs release for the product.

Alexis

I'd personally love some non-humanoid sentient Xenos races. Either way it goes its going to be interesting, it would be nice to have a xenos psyker career path, Eldar Warlock and Ork Weirdboy or another psy-attuned race.

Eldar Corsair/Outcast will be one, and some kind of Stryxis will be the other. That's just a guess, by the way.

I have a feeling that xenos will be race-as-class, although basing it on homeworlds would be an elegant way of doing it.

Squigs and Necrons are my guess. . . . .

Okay, not really.

I'm hoping that they are two careers that can go with a variety of races. The point about the Origin paths having three options sound good, but Homeworld and Birthright, the two parts of the Origin Path that I think would most likely determine that a character is Xenos, don't have the three options. That's later, with Lure of the Void.

Neither of those are xenos.

Eldar Corsair. Kroot Mercenary. Both are identified as potential mercenaries in the RT book.

Orks make poor PCs IMO because of how they reproduce.

Orks have not only survived, they have prospered and are more numerous than humanity. This at least is due in part to how they reproduce. Orks reproduce through the release of spores, which grow into a plant-like womb underground that nourishes the bodies of the various Orkoid species. This is the entire basis of the Orkoid ecosystem, producing first Squigs, then Snotlings who cultivate the Squigs and fungus, then Gretchin to build the settlements, and finally the Orks themselves. This means the Orks, where ever they go, will have an abundance of food, slaves and other resources, a moving ecosystem that supports them as they go on their Waaagh!s

This also makes it extremely difficult to rid a planet of Orks, even if the initial invasion is defeated. Orks release spores thought their lives, but release them particularly at the moment of death. Without a nearby population of Orks, the fungus will eventually start the Ork life cycle anew. Decades after weathering an Ork Waaagh! settlements on a planet can find themselves faced with an unexpected attack from Feral Ork tribes coming out of the wilderness.

Rogue Traders get away with a lot, but planting a future ork population on every planet they visit seems a bit too much.

That's what makes them awesome!

Not many people know about that little tidbit, so that's pretty much irrelevant...

Orks also don't understand human systems of Rank, as they always take orders from the largest. The more-or-less only ones known to be able to employ mercenary orks for more then one engagment are deamon princes. Presumably because they are, in fact, larger and more stompy then the ork warbosses they employed. Even then the Ork mobs often turned on their employers, using the very weapons they accepted as payment to kill their employers.

The whole ork mentality doesn't lend themselves to being under the control of a Rogue Trader. They make great pirates on their own right, but don't work well with others.

how manywho

Surely the Ordo Xenos knows...?

(Also, what Quicksilver said.)

Surely the Ordo Xenos knows...?

Part of the Ordo does - and it's not like a Rogue Trader wouldn't do things some Inquisitors preferred him not to do anyway.
The employment of Ork freebootas is not exactly a puritan move, but it seems to get done sometimes.

I would like to side with the no ORK PCs please side.

I see them way less viable a PC than the enigmatic, elusive, arrogant Eldar.

I still vote for Eldar(Corsair) and Kroot (Mercenary)
