Also, the RR Pdf has been updated to add all the “huge ship stuff”, but also added something...

you can’t roll more than 6 attack/defence dice

That is disappointing.

That first new official ruling is interesting to say the least.

I like it - puts to bed some of the controversies that have arisen around it.

Looking like it might be the only one today, unless the next one took an hour to type.

Well this is FFG OP we’re talking about 😂

I like that it ends the controversies and it is now clear how to play it. It is a horrible ruling and gives ships with an arc weapon a chance (albeit a limited one) to attack with an incorrectly facing arc. Horrible ruling. Also horrible in that will lead to arguments about other paragraphs on cards also being argued as "optional."

Fair point for those who might want to make those arguments. However, we'll take those as they come.

However, I can't see the Snap Shot ruling affecting too many turret-arc ships other than the Resistance "A"s, the Nantex, and some side-case YT-1300 builds (maybe YT-2400 as well, but it cuts out a lot of other options). Just off the top of my head:

  • Dengar (JM5000) is not going to be affected, since the title only adds a die to a primary weapon attack and the turret is usually going to be pointed forward anyway. It might be used on Manaroo, but Manaroo has better uses for the talent slot. A Contracted Scout might benefit.
  • It could be used on a HWK, but anyone flying the HWK is likely to also have the title attached, which provides a better forward arc attack.
  • YT-1300s could benefit, but at the cost of a VTG attack. A YT-1300 with Snap Shot and Agile Gunner would be an outside possibility, but at the cost of an unmodded front arc attack, when the turret arc is better in most cases. [Actually, as I think of this, a front arc attack with a VTG turret attack might be a possible YT-1300 build].
  • Starfortresses don't have a talent slot, so they can't use it.

VTG triggers off of primary attacks so won't trigger from Snap Shot in the Engagement Phase and cannot trigger if Snap Shot had been used as a bonus attack earlier in the round.

I think it only really matters on Foresight Inquisitors.

That is a strange ruling. Overturning that some ships intentionally do not have a forward weapon.

If you are really tight on points, 7 is less than 18.

If you want to fly 2 Hwk290s, e.g. Palob+Torkil, Jan+Roark, Torkil/Palob+Dace (Epic), for whatever reasons (and in Epic you have the points), now, suddenly, both have forward arcs, giving a pretty wide board coverage.

Snap Shot does not provide a firing arc for the purposes of abilities that check whether something is in arc. (For that matter, neither do missiles/torpedoes. Only primary weapons and turrets count.)

It's no different to putting a missile on the falcon or outrider
