Doom Patrol

So I was playing around with the concept of double Patrol Leaders and some sort of 3rd ship ( not RAC/Oicunn), figuring that's just a **** of a lot of gristle to a list. 2 Patrol Leaders, each with Hull Upgrade would come out 70 points each. But they're only really tough with Reinforce, which means they'll need some source for extra mods.

My first thought was for an Extended version, running Vizier to give some coordinates, with Shield Upgrade and Emperor Palpatine. That'd help for mods anywhere when needed. But I've got some Hyperspace format stuff coming up, and Palp's out of the format. To me, this kind of means Vizier is out, too. Kallus wouldn't be trash, and maybe I could also put Seismic Charges on the Patrol Leaders, but it doesn't quite click for me.

Then it occured to me: Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister are both fairly cheap. This leaves 42-46 points, depending on whether or not I keep the Hull Upgrades.

Here's what I've come up with:

  • Patrol Leader (Fifth Brother, Hull Upgrade) 79
  • Patrol Leader (Seventh Sister, Hull Upgrade) 79
  • Duchess ( - ) 42

But that last ship is flexible, and I'm not fully sure what to do with it.

  • To me, kind of seems like a Striker is first option for the 3rd ship. Duchess adds some high-init arc dodgy to the list.
    • I don't think it'd be worth giving up extra hull for Crack Shot or Predator, since there's not really much else the list can afford.
      • One copy of Seismic Charges? On Duchess?
      • Countdown could be an option. He's tanky, which is nice, but the list already has tanky and I'd rather add dodgy.
  • TIE Fighter probably doesn't do enough.
  • There doesn't seem to be a TIE Bomber which would be a good fit.
  • Can't afford Soontir and none of the other interceptors seem like they'd click.
  • Ditto TIE/x1.
  • Not really feeling a Reaper.
  • TIE/v1 might work, but I'm not sure what I'd build with it.
    • Low-upgrades Seventh Sister would be nice, but she's already in the list, and there aren't points to upgrade to TGI or Vader, and Palp isn't Hyperspace.
    • Regular Inquisitor actually has decent points for playing around. Sense wouldn't be terrible, but I figure it's probably not too hard to guess where Reinforces and Rotates need to be. Conc worries me, since your own ships will have a lot of cards to worry about flipping up, but it's probably the best missile. But I still feel like I want the Init 5 of Duchess.

Not two Decimators, but...

  1. Scarif Base Pilot: Darth Vader
  2. Scarif Base Pilot: Seventh Sister
  3. "Duchess": Fifth Brother
  4. Inquisitor: Supernatural Reflexes

YASB 2.0 (2 x Reaper, Striker, Advanced V1)

Can drop Inquisitor for more "Ompf" on the Duchess and Reapers.

  1. Scarif Base Pilot: Darth Vader, Grand Inquisitor
  2. Scarif Base Pilot: Seventh Sister, 0-0-0
  3. "Duchess": Fifth Brother, Outmaneuver, Shield Upgrade

YASB 2.0 (2 x Reaper, Striker)

You have one Reaper with 2 Force and neat abilities at range 0-2 from it. You have the other one with 1 Force and abilities at range 0-1 from it. And Duchess turns into a flanking monster with 1 Force, a shield and Outmaneuver.

Love the idea of Bro and Sis on 2 Deci's.

Boy that 3rd ship is a tough fit.

Maybe drop hull off 7th Sisters ride to offer it as a more tempting target. I'd probably want to get rid of 5th Bro and avoid 7th Sis, if I was against it.

That'd give you Predator on Duchess, but no bid for her makes me a bit leery.

An Inquisitor is always a good, cheap, 3rd ship. They can be very annoying. Particularly if you can Super it with a Coord.

Other one that catches my eye at 44pt, is a super cagey APT Rhymer. He'd be able to exert pressure on chosen board spaces and possibly help funnel things into Deci punishment. Coord him double mods, or sneak a lock and lurk, it's a scary prospect. Coord the reload, 5k, repeat.

I feel like a single force token is not enough mods for either. You're essentially running a 3 ship list of 3 dice ships, and the best offense they can offer is a focus token, a calculate, and a calculate. I don't think the toughness outweighs that

Depends on what you're fighting. Against like a 3-ship aces build, I'd probably try to be taking locks more often. Meanwhile, turrets feel like they have good time-on-target to eat away at stuff.

But you might be right; the list needs table time to judge it. I was going to fly it last weekend, but the kit tourney got cancelled, and this week my standard casual night buddy and I did an Armada Battle of Endor instead of X-Wing.

"Pure Sabacc" + Ruthless (45)

TOTAL 199

The advantage here is that you have the flexibility to either a) bait with Pure Sabacc, in which case the Patrol Leaders are free to lock instead of Reinforce, or b) screen Pure Sabacc with the Decimators so he can use Ruthless to make his shots more accurate. In fact, I got really excited to run this, and then realized I have only one Decimator.

Here's another similar to Para's, but not quite as subtle... ;)

  • Oicunn (Dauntless, Intimidation) 81
  • Patrol Leader (Director Krennic) 72
  • Sabacc ( Optimized Prototype, Crack Shot or Predator) 45 or 46

Total 198 or 199

In lieu of Sabacc, you could use an Inquisitor with your choice of missile and Force upgrade.

Could work. Like most folks, I'm always nervous to use Ruthless, but Pure Sabaac does add a lot of scary hitting power, and these things are only 4.8 points per HP, which isn't bad. The only thing Duchess adds is being one of the cheapest effective arc dodgers. But the core of two Decimators with passive mods, plus a 3rd ship pest to diversify the threat is there. Might have to give it a shot.

The only thing I worry about is the dice mods. Patrol Leader needs to lock and not spend it for Pure Sabaac to OptProt, and Oicunn is also only on one action. Yep, I agree it could be a problem.

My preference is probably to go with Oicunn with title, and then two aces.

At least Oicunn is still getting an action if he bumps, assuming he keeps dialing in blues.

But I don't have much experience with the Deci, so I'm not a good reference source on this.

I'd rather put Krennic on the reaper piloted by Vermeil.

I'd spend your 42 points on Nightbeast and add proximity mines to both Decis.
