Beginner's fleet builds.

By Jimbaker, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey everyone,

Got this game recently and I'm diving in head first. In addition to the core set, I have an ISD, MC80, MC30, Raider, Imp Squads, and R&V expansions.

I played a game with my gf yesterday with the lists below (I won as Empire). I lost 1 interceptor squad, 1 TIE squad, and the Raider. She lost the MC30, 3 X-wing squads, and Han. My sense is that the Rebels might be too seriously outgunned in terms of squadrons.

Where are the lists?

Imperial squadrons are squishy, but are tooled towards air superiority, where as Rebel squadrons are tankier and more tooled towards smashing ships to pieces. Dont under estimate a Rebel Bomber list when someone learns to fly it, it will hit and punish you hard, Rebel Heavy Bombers and the Yavaris Nebulon-B are quite capable of dropping an ISD in a single turn if done right.
If you are enjoying the Imperial Squadron game, you should consider building a list around his h o e.

Asides from improving your squadrons ability to kill enemy squadron aces, it also makes your air superiority fighters deadly towards ships as well, allowing you to strip them of defense tokens so that your ships can deal unmitigated damage. Because of Imperial Squadrons being squishy, you generally run all aces for their special effects and their defense tokens which make them way more evasive towards taking damage.

Just some food for thought.

Heavenly Overseer of Elimination is last month’s title.

Im dont have many games under my belt, but to me it seems that Rebels are more about positioning, while imperials are more about denying your opponent your flanks.

with that in mind, Imperial is easier to pick up, but they seem fairly balanced when both players are a similar skill and both players understand most of the mechanics of cards even outside their faction.

I would avoid any black dice focused ships for a learning player, they are the biggest risk= reward ships in armada and you really need a good handle on positioning....

So I would avoid using your raider and MC-30 until you both get more used to armada. The only ship with a focus on black dice that you can kinda throw around and not melt from bad positioning is the MC-75(because its a large base)

on the squadron front, I’ve just never had success with a large quantity(i play rebel against a friend with imperial every other week)

as much as rebel bombers are good, I usually just go with a minimalistic fighter screen(usually a-wings or x-wings) bc I am convinced Ties are the best squadron in the game(admiral sloane makes them give me nightmares)

Sorry for the wall of text.
