So we're finally getting the much-anticipated card packs. Epic is around the corner. There's some scuttle about the alt-paint ships being given as prizes/exclusives at events. It occurs to me that if we have card packs, why not ship packs?

The goal here would be to create packs where you could get multiple alt-painted ships WITHOUT any cards or tokens, so the overall cost per ship would be a bit lower. Not only are you getting cool alternate paints, but this might also give a better opportunity for players to pick up multiple ships to form squads for epic. Who knows, you could even package them with a single small-sheet scenario based on the ships.

Ideas: Inferno squad Ties, Republic Jedi, Emperor's guard (shuttle + interceptors), Alphabet squadron, clone wars ships painted for alt squadrons like Wolfpack, prototype repaint pack (B-wing, Defender, etc.), and the list goes on.

Let me know your ideas and if you'd be interested in these. I would think FFG would be interested in re-using the same molds in this way. It's a trick that's worked for toy companies for years and I think they would sell.

Eh? If we are doing this, I would at minimum want one copy of each generic pilot for the chassis plus one dial for that ship per mini. It doesn’t need to have all the named ones we can pick up in the original expansion, fine, but I’d rather be able to fly all my copies of the same model at the same time.

True, the dials are probably essential for packs with multiples like the Ties. This could also be a place for them to do the alt dials/tokens like they did with the Plo set.

I’d happily pay a normal MSRP price for Jedi ships painted to match the pilots.

We're getting Saw's Renegades in December. If that's not an alt-paint squad pack, what is?

It'll be nice to have it in real hard plastic without gummy wings and cards that don't have errors 😛

I'd love them to do some Alt paints special packs. It would be best if they were part of some expansion content, even minor content at that, that just injects a spot of flavor to the game. It doesn't need to be a bunch of stuff. Like if there was just a single new named pilot, a corresponding limited generic(gen-ique) for some canonical squad, the other base generics that go to that normally, and an environment. That would be sweet AF.

Otherwise I just wish the limited content was for sale through their website. I'm into collecting the game, but not into being someone's event rebate coupon in the aftermarket at super inflated prices.

I like the prototypes idea of Defender/B-wing. That's got some serious legs to run on.

The Jedi fighters seem an obvious choice, especially if they ever bring in the Hyperspace Ring and ETA-2. Two Jedi paints with two rings would be an easy pack to pick up as a one-of. Split the pack with each of Aethersprite and ETA-2. Ideally the ring would be available in some other fashion, though I'm not sure outside of epic if you would realistically need more than 2 rings anyway? Not really a hard pick.

Inferno squad seems like a good pick too. Though with as easy/minor a scheme as it is, as many second market TIE fighters are floating around, and the fact that all the pilots cards are already out, makes it not seem as likely. I think that should be left to private repaint picks. Though having a generic Inferno squad card/tile sure would be cool. It would be funny to have the Iden's Droid as a crew card too. Make him into a flyable remote token! Fly him around and zap dudes! 😆 🤩 (Also low key hint @ffg, Conversion mini packs for just T-65/70s and TIE/ln/FOs would be GREATLY appreciated. There's a TON of unconverted plastic floating around out here, love ya!)

Alphabet Squadron (books/comics). Blue Squadron and Partisan T-65 X-wings (Rogue One) so you can flesh out the renegades without the U-wing tax a bit more, and get some Blues. YeOlde Ace's pack reprints, especially with the new B-wing. The stealth X-wing squad from legends led by Wedge. All good options that I would snag. Droid, Clone, Scum, sub faction colors abound.

I'd very much enjoy having alt paint packs, but not without cards. Just different options.

Bet your *** I'm getting those new A-Wings as a result. Even if I just do not play Rebels.

I would buy the Resistance aces should they come out with some nice alt art ships for them. Even if i dont play the faction.

Yeah, this exactly.

But as @ScummyRebel points out, you kinda need the dial, too. I play cardless and I have mountains of tokens and stands, but you gotta have a dial.

So Ship 'N' Dials could work.
