new vs old c-roc

By period3, in X-Wing Epic Play

The old 1.0 c-rocs are going for about $50 cheaper than the upcoming 2.0 release of c-roc, AND they include a scyk. (I have a few scum ships, but no scyks, so this is kinda nice).

Is there any reason to prefer the 2.0 ship if I'm going to get the epic upgrade kit anyway? (I have transport, cr-90, gozanti, and raider already from 1.0) It seems to be pretty much the same?

The only reason I can think of is if you are going to field more than 2 huge ships at the same time. The Conversion Kit only comes with components to run two huge ships simultaneously, so having an extra dance tool and ship base will let you, for example, supply your opponent with a huge ship, or invite friends to play a 3-player scenario involving huge ships.

I'm probably going to pick up the old C-ROC because, like you, I don't own an M3-A interceptor yet, and I don't really feel the need to run more than 2 huge ships at once, especially since wings of starfighters sound almost as exciting as huge ships.

I was pondering that, but you can get a 1.0 C-ROC plus a whole extra convrsion kit still for probably less than a 2.0 C-ROC, and get another extra base.

Hmm...good point.

Well, the only other reason then is that buying more huge ships will tell FFG that we want more huge ships in the game. I'm not sure how good that reason is, but maybe it's a factor for some people. $100 for a C-ROC, though...that's a lot to ask.

Cant field 2 of the same faction using just 1 conversion kit and the 1.0 C-ROCs aren't going to be available for cheap for much longer if my instinct on it is correct. At the moment 1.0 C-ROC + conversion is cheaper, but it won't remain that way.

In case it wasn't clear I was talking about buying a second C-ROC and 2 Con. Kits. :D

I sort of caught that. For now it works. :)

Already bought my 1e C-ROC. Only thing I'm missing is a Tantive. Maybe prices on old ones will come down once the new one is out.

Buying conversion kits should tell them this plenty - it means you want to play your huge ships.

At the same time, if the new Huge ships aren't selling, why would FFG continue to produce additional ones? Sure, the conversion kit+1.0 ship option is there. But my understanding is they only made 5 Huge ships in 1.0 because people weren't buying/using them. The conversion kit is for those who did buy the old ships, so they don't feel like they wasted their money.

But if the new Raider, C-ROC, and CR-90 expansions aren't selling, it's possible that plans for future Huge ships get canned. And that would IMO be a shame. As such, I'm tempted to say "if you don't already have 1.0 Huge ships that you need to convert over, go out and buy the 2.0 version instead."

The new one will be cheaper than the used ones I’ve seen anyway; I’m probably going that route.
