Emplacement trooper + comms relay

By jocke01, in Star Wars: Legion

Hi

I have been playing a local player who used a very powerful combo with the new corps and comms relay.

You take either 2 squads of veterans or shoretroopers with 2 emplacement mortar or medium blasters. You put comms relay on the emplacement.

This gives you insane amount of order control and possible token stacking.

So for example:

I play ambush and gives order to my veteran squad who gains 1 Dodge and then coordinates one of my emplacement. This triggers comms relay so the give away their order to the 2nd veteran squad who gains 1 dodge token an triggers coordinate. They give an order to the 2nd emplacement who triggers comms relay and send it to another unit or they can Keep the order.

A crazier example is if I play "My ally is the Force" I give 1 order to my veteran squad who gains 2 dodge tokens and coordinates, the emplacement comms relay the order to my 2nd veteran squad who gains 2 dodge and coordinates the 2nd emplacement who can Keep the order and gains 1 Dodge. I place the second order on Luke gaining 1 dodge.

This can be even crazier with shoretroopers, entourage and aggressive tactics. I don't know if this will be the new thing, but I have a Hard time not making a list with this basic combo in it. It's so much control and command card value.

What do you guys think?

I've been using this combo for some time now in a Rebel list. It synergizes very well with both Luke's and Leia's 2 pip (especially if you put offensive push on vets). It's also important to give orders to the blasters in order to enable fire support. They're okay when they fire on their own, but they really shine when they can give critical 2 to a unit that doesn't have offensive surge or boost a unit with sharpshooter or pierce (Han with double blaster support is pretty bonkers, snipers and even regular Z-6 troopers love them too).

As for Shores though... I'm not so sure. For one thing, Imperial commanders don't have nearly the same synergy with HQ uplink as Leia or Luke. For another, mortars do not need to be used in fire support mode to be effective since their primary purpose is to dump suppression on crucial targets.

Indeed fire support is nice, you can have one of them with a face up token. I have found it hard to get them into range and survive vs imperial range 4-5 shooting though. I agree that giving the dice and critical to non-surge units (the few we have) or shaepshooter is a good play. I wish rebels could have more access to som tokens though.

Shoretroopers dosen't gain stuff from command cards, but you can with 1 order get 2 shoretroopers order tokens ready with aim and a surge token from aggressive tactics, while still giving away an order from 2nd mortar to something else. With a 2-3 pip card and entourage you can pretty much get order tokens to all units except the mortars who will be in your order stack anyway.

Imperials do have a commander with a command card that allows free Recovers, though. That (and Shore Troopers natural synergy with anything that gives surge tokens) makes up for it.

no need for uplink on shores, was thinking of veterans. Uplink is just and additional crazyness as it's can start the whole chain reaction

Being able to order all six corps units two turns in a row with Imperial Discipline + Uplinks is worth it...

you haven't played against droids yet, eh?

I played "Trained in your Jedi arts" and had all 9 order tokens out.

Me either. We literally just got our core boxes yesterday. I’ve assembled some of my minis but nothing has happened.

I am the republic player of the cores; my friend is the roger Rogers.
