Bitter about event exclusive ships

All of what you guys keep say is true. The the take home message, IMHO, really is:

Perk for some, bad blood for others.

But you are the one creating the bad blood. Not FFG.

I don't think that kind of mojo should exist in a well-loved game. And it didn't seem to exist before alt-art miniatures.

Which brings us back to the question of whether alt-art miniatures are fundamentally different from alt-art anything else. The biggest argument that they are seems to be simply that more people are grumbling about them. It's possible, but not the only explanation.

Personally, I wonder if maybe people have always felt this way, but now, because of changing society, feel less willing to suppress their desires and force themselves to be content; and more willing to demand what they want.

This is just pure speculation on my part, but it seems to be the way society as a whole is going, so why wouldn't such tendencies show up in our games?

Better start getting bitter about not getting these next event exclusives...

Or this Hellion Squad set 😝

Anywho. I don't think it's a entitlement/deserve thing really. I could see how that's confused in the mess of a thread this is though. I think it's more of a supply and demand issue. We know they can supply it, now we're demanding it. It's not entitlement, it's just business lol.

Someone earlier brought up the 'special' thing again in regards to an official FFG remake and release of Plo. Specifically that it would essentially devalue the prize version. While there's some truth to that, it technically would, I'm just curious how the secondary market and commission painters factor into that argument. Like if I go and make say ten fake ones, or open a commission service, I'd be doing the same thing. Arguably more so if I choose to do my own version better than the factory by far and pump the market with my version. So, should we say that none allowed to make them so the value is retained? 'course not. Which is why I pointed out before that it's really a non point to make, doesn't hold up. Because if devaluation was the concern, by all logic, well, I've got bad news for you 😕

So collectors generally prefer the "original" and not a copy, which would in a sense devalue the World's Plo in a business sense if they were released via blister. And while the secondary market doesn't mean that the Plo ship owner necessarily was at worlds, it would be infrequently seen enough to warrant someone across the table commenting how cool that is (and these momentary bits of fame are things some people covet). That isn't to say FFG owes it to Worlds attendees or secondary market buyers to never release it again, because they don't owe any subset of people anything.

The word deserve has been thrown around a lot. Honestly, I also have felt that @Darth Meanie has been pretty clear in admitting that it isn't more than an emotional response.

I think people on all sides care a lot less than their detractors imagine they do, and we all are blowing this way out of proportion.

Just out of curiosity, which Jedi was Plo Koon? Was he in the movies, or just Clone Wars?

So, no one here is really grousing that people take the time and effort to make their own stuff. In fact, the point is quite the opposite:

Who is FFG trying to benefit by making a broadly popular item artificially rare?? And if you become aware that a certain kind of gift is making others jealous, do you just keep doing that in good conscience?

Which is why I think non-canon paint jobs might be the way to go. A 2019 Worlds Livery can easily be a one and done thing (keeping its value as a "rare"}, with no one feeling like they missed out on in-universe material.

So, based on the background, looks like he was in the rescue party during Attack of the Clones?

Such details didn't really seem relevant to the overall discussion. But now that that's winding down, I'm curious.

Yep. He was also in Episode 3, shot down during the Order 66 montage. I believe seen in the paint job in question.

edit: I’m also pretty sure he was also in Episode 1, though he was just one of the council at that point.

Omfg lmao wat 😳 !? I've been laughing for twenty minutes. 😂 🤣 😝 JJ! Bruh! You literally asked a question related to the canonical relevance! And you didn't actually know what your talking about?

It's like the whole thread makes sense now! 🙄 🧐

This is officially now the best worst thread in the entire Xwing forum. That's a wrap y'all. Pack it in. It's over. We did the thing. Seven pages in and one of us didn't even know what was happening 😄 👍

Real talk, can we all organize a watch party together so we can catch up JJ? You know as friends? All go down to the bar, grab a pint, and wait for this whole thing to blow over while watching and emphatically pointing at Plo whenever he's on screen. I'll buy drinks. FIRST ROUND ON ME!

Bruh, I'm crying now. Best forum day EVAH! 🤩 😋

So FFG shouldn't do something because it makes some people jealous?! Good God, grow up! I just wasted 30 minutes of my life reading this stupid thread. It was like train wreck. I couldn't turn away.

And then we could discuss if it shouldn‘t be called Anakin‘s paint job because he used that one before on his Delta-7B (-Prototype?) in the first clone wars series by Tartakovsky.

Wow. 30 minutes and all you came away with was a personal assault on me.

I'm honored.

I think it’s safe to say we can let this thread die. We’ve all debated and said what had to be said. Some folks weighed in that shouldn’t have.

Main takeaways:

1. Some people feel differently about models than cards.

2. Some people see no difference. Both sides have made their case.

3. I owe DM an Inferno squad tie, provided it came from FFG OP and provided I attend the event that it’s handed out.

4. A few folks who didn’t know learned who Plo even was.

5. Chemical Jedi wasted 30 min of his life because he read through the whole thing and couldn’t contribute meaningfully.

6. We all play X-wing and are passionate about it...?

7. We all would like to play X-wing right now, but cannot due to whatever constraint. So, as a surrogate, we passionately waste our lifetime here :P

This is the summary of the entire forum.

Also a decent 10-20% of my life of late. :(
