@Hiemfire I noticed your reaction. May I ask your thoughts on the matter?

Just not liking the concept of another faction locked "generic" upgrade. I can understand your stance on doing so with what is being suggested ability wise for the R7 series though.

Doesn’t this just increase faction identity? What’s the downside to the concept of faction-locked generic upgrades?

Fair.

R4 astromech is generic, and available to all factions.

R4-P is locked to the Republic faction, which is annoying to some because it's not a limited astromech and it would be extremely useful on other factions' ships (such as the JM5K). It's hard to see exactly why it's faction-locked, from either a thematic or a mechanical perspective.

Ask that again when your favorite faction gets locked out of yet another upgrade via faction locking or not having ships with the correct number of slots that would have been nice to have, for the upteenth time.

Every faction is locked out of all kinds of stuff. The blending at the end of 1.0 was not as fun as having real factions.

“I dislike when other people get stuff” is a poor way to go about enjoying a game. : /

What hurts E-Wings ultimately is they are are Ace priced for a non ace chassis.

Unlike their stat line other factional (TIE Defender, Starviper, TIE Silencer) counterparts (3 primary, 3 agility, no init 6) they suffer ultimately from lack of double reposition, and defensible action economy. The linked action is pretty much rarely used in most games.

They do require a playing style that is very unique; This is a ship that wants to deliver pain then flee, and Afterburners is probably the most critical upgrade to have on them to GTFO to range 3 or GTFI to range 1.

So much fun to fly though.

Rerelease as Resistance imo. It doesn’t fit with rebels anyways.

Why do you think so? They're just a more streamlined version of the T-65; they share the same fuselage.

I kind of dislike that FFG has completely walled off their reprint expansions from newer upgrades. I understand that they don't want to create 1e Starviper/Autothrusters issues, where people feel forced to buy ships just for upgrades, but they haven't fixed it. Take for example Autoblasters. The cannon will be in the upcoming pilot pack, but the B-Wing and M3-A Scyk Interceptor reprint expansions--both ships which could have used it--haven't included it. So far, the only Autoblasters are in the Resistance Transport. We still have a case where you have to buy a ship to get an upgrade, only it's a new ship rather than a reprint. More options would just be better, and it'd have been great if stuff like Passive Sensors had been in the TIE/sf, or Plasma Torpedoes in the Silencer, etc etc.

You don't need to buy a new ship to get Autoblasters (or some of the other recent new upgrades), you can go with the Hotshots and Aces Reinforcement Pack instead: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing-second-edition/products/hotshots-and-aces-reinforcements-pack/
(Well, at least once it's actually released, you can).

That contains 2 copies of autoblasters, and a bunch of other upgrades that have mostly only been in new ships so far.

Others getting things is not the issue, you assuming that it is sad. Getting screwed out of what is becoming a continual chain of so called "generic" upgrades, including equipment which the faction being denied was known for using, for the sake of "faction identity" while having what was the core of your own faction's identity be a nerfed shadow and fully available to multiple factions or completely blocked from yours via special requirements is the issue.

Yeah, I mentioned the pack in my post. It doesn't even have a release date yet.

Meanwhile, we've had two cannon-slot ships which *could* have had the upgrade in it.

There's no way that isn't lame from FFG.

The claim was that you have to buy a ship you might not want in order to get the upgrades. That's not true. You just can't get it right now without buying another ship.

If FFG had put those new upgrades into the re-releases of 1.0 ships, I guarantee that there would have been howls of complaints over that as well, because people were already pre-emptively complaining about that possibility when 2.0 first released. FFG then promised that wouldn't be the case. So now people are complaining that they're keeping their promise. FFG gets complained about no matter what they do on this one.

Timelines matter.

Just because the 1e TIE Silencer eventually came out with Autothrusters doesn't mean folks didn't have to buy Starvipers for a long length of time.

Naw.

I mean, if Autoblasters had been in the M3-A and the B-Wing and the Resistance Transport, people would not have complained. They'd have said: "Gee, now I have a choice between buying three different ships. I'm not into this one faction, or I already have 3 of those, so maybe I'll get this other one." Can't solve folks having to buy cross-faction expansions to get upgrades by only putting those upgrades in the prequel factions--that just changes around which factions. The solution is to put the upgrades in as many expansions as they make sense with.

How do I know this? Because no one has complained about FFG breaking a promise with Afterburners being in the Fang, B-Wing, TIE/sf, and Inquisitor's TIE expansions. That's the thing: it already happened that new upgrades (not just Conversion kit ones) have showed up in reprints. Just not many, and not the new upgrades that wave.

It's not about keeping a promise or not: it's about understanding the actual frustration of players. It's clear that you don't.

Not all time is equal. Card packs are coming fairly soon. Autothrusters was YEARS.

Afterburners are in the 2.0 Core Set.

They're also a participation prize in the current game night kit box(es), I believe
