Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - final trailer (aka episode IX)

Well... that's not good. The Last Jedi is my favourite star Wars film.
Weirdly there are those who say they compliment each other perfectly, and others say they don’t.
I’ll see what I think tomorrow morning when I see it.
With as divisive and different - from TFA - as TLJ was, it's bound to come across that way, I think. JJ's style and Rian's style are very different and TROS has to conclude 9 episodes, which means delving into things TLJ avoided, so it's probably inevitable to hear things like that.
That said, good to see positives!
I do have a feeling that, loved or loathed, TRoS will be viewed as the last "pre-Mandalorian" installment from Disney. There's something special about Mando; the first promise of lightning in a bottle for almost 40 years.
I like the mandalorian but that’s way too much credit as far as I’m concerned.

As with many things Star Wars these days, it depends on who you talk to. I've seen plenty of remarks in various places that have said the episodes are at best "not horrible" or "slightly mediocre," that the lead character is barely interesting, or that the show has pretty much devolved to being adverts for the inevitable Baby Yoda merch. And this from folks that have otherwise enjoyed all the films (originals, prequels, and sequels) as well as the "we hate everything that's not the original trilogy!" crowd.

Agreed.

Among fans and superfans, sure. But the expansion into mass pop culture, largely Baby Yoda but including Mando himself, is new. We just didn't see this with either the Prequel and Sequel series. Well, other than Jar-Jar, which was for the wrong reasons. 😃
Star Wars is the largest pop culture phenomenon ever...

I'm talking about penetration into demographics who don't normally care about Star Wars. Mando is doing that. Eps. 1-3 and 7-8, despite everyone knowing about them when they happen, haven't.
Anyway -- made my point in the Skywalker, and you and the other guy are kinda brick walls, so, yeah.
And I'm in the camp of not giving a crap about the series at all, having been soured on the entire concept of Mandalorians due to the rampant fan worship of them, and their elevation to these ridiculous Unkillable Space Spartans, that I just don't have any interest in even trying to watch the show.

Wow... thanks!
But sure man this new series of which we have no idea how many people are actively following it is penetrating a larger demographic than the highest grossing movie of all time did.

I have not caught even a hint of Traviss's Ultramarine Mandos.
The show plays its cards close to its vest, but they seem to have been largely exterminated by the Empire. The main character is as often met with mockery as awe.

Some of that could also simply be the size of the galaxy, as well. Yes, a lot of fans are Mando-fetishists and they play a prominent role in the lore, but Mandalore is not currently a notable Galactic power and how many of them can there really be? We're talking about the diaspora of a single planet. Most people would have only heard stories, which would make them legends and stereotypes until you actually met one. Kind of like Jedi...

I don't really care personally. I admit it's something of a prejudice on my part, but the simple fact is, when I see the posters for "The Mandolorian", all I see is Boba Fett, and all of the decades of fanwankery about how Ermagurd Awesome he is! When to me, he's the single most trumped up, over hyped, overblown character in the entire franchise. Where "because he looks cool!" seems to be sufficient reason by rabid fans, to justify whatever, even when the Fett was a really one note character, who simply had a good look. I cringe at the thought of even watching it.
It doesn't help that I'm pretty burned out on Star Wars in general at this point, and I don't find myself even remotely excited to see ROTS, not for lack of enjoying the new trilogy (which I enjoy a great deal in fact), just, all the extra crap that is now permanently attached to anything Star Wars. The rampant marketing, the constant nostalgia callbacks to icons from the original trilogy (*cough Mandolorian design and Baby Yoda cough*), the flaming toxic **** show that is the percentage of the fans, that can't differentiate their own self identity and worth, from a hobby they really like, and thus spew hate and bile into the world in defense of "Their Star Wars", to the point of pretty much assaulting other human beings for simply existing.
Just...all of it, I don't really care anymore. I don't, and have never needed, to consume every SW morsel that's been produced, and I doubt I ever will. It's a thing I love, sure, but loving something to the extent some people in this fanbase do, is unhealthy. And the end result is me just sighing, and cringing, when I see ROTS posters, not because I think it will be bad, but because I know my youtube suggestions are already being tainted by ***** online with terrible comments about it.
So no, I don't really care to see The Mando.

I don't know. The impression I'm getting is that whatever happened to the Mandalorians, that it's a fairly recent thing, that people are still getting used to there not being more of them around. Everybody seems to know what Mandalorians are, and nobody has treated the main character like a legend (except that one guy, but he's a hermit).
And this would track with the Mandalorian stuff in Rebels. They were only an Imperial-occupied world less than 10 years before the show. Then they rebelled. Looks like that didn't go well for them.
I'm going to see the movie on three different nights, with three different groups of friends, so I'm hoping it is at least as good as Force Awakens, and hopefully as good as if not better than the Last Jedi.

And so you opt to be a brick wall yourself? Yeah, that's conducive to an honest discussion 🙄
Just because you and your immediate circle might be ga-ga over the show, that doesn't mean everyone else feels the same about the show. Take a look outside your bubble and you might find the show isn't as universally revered as you tried to claim it be, whether it be among the hardcore fans, the casual fans, or those with only a passing interest in Star Wars in general. Even Baby Yoda has started to wear out its welcome with folks due to its meme status.
I talk routinely with a substantial group who aren't sci-fi fans in general, much less of Star Wars, and they have zero interest in the show, having only gotten their Disney+ subscription for access to the large catalog of Disney, Marvel and even National Geographic programming.
I mean, in the end, all any of us have are just personal anecdotes, and personal experience. Nobody can really claim universal truths about any of it. Even the most beloved things have detractors, because art is subjective.
Love what you love, dislike what you dislike - we all have our place in Star Wars, and what Star Wars things we consume.
No need to say one thing is this, or this thing is that. It is whatever it is to you.
Be happy. Watch/play what makes you happy. Everyone needs a little bit of that in their life.

I have no hopes, but nothing can be worse than Last Jedi so I at least hope they will close all unanswered cases. The good thing is - the nightmare will finally be over :). And better thing is : Disney anncounced there won't be any more star wars trilogies after TRoS, which is fantastic. Hopefully people like JJ, Ray and Kennedy won't touch anything else in SW.
I hope Dave Filoni will finally get some shot at movies as he seems to be the only one that really understands SW and respects it's lore.
It's like with school finals, at least everything will be over tomorrow :).

Kathleen Kennedy is the President of Lucasfilm, so everything Star Wars goes through her, FYI, and she's not going anywhere. She's an EP on Mandalorian, and the forthcoming Obi-Wan and Cassian shows. Also TCW Season 7.
Bob Iger also clarified they aren't saying 'no' to trilogies, just that they'll take the Marvel approach of making however many the story needs.

Well, I still have hopes they will kick her out or just move her somewhere else in Disney after TRoS will quiet down. Hope dies last, no? ![]()
Trilogies are more demanding because you need clear story, clear ideas, character development and depth, and good execution so everything fits together, which is something they totally can't do right now as they already shown.
I won't say, Rogue one was in my opinion a good movie (not without it's bads), so If they take simillar approach, I might be interested again. I just hope they will learn something from this poor trilogy. For the better.
