What I hope, is that Yoda's terrible way of talking is actually just some kind of speech impediment. And that the rest of his race are capable of just talking like normal. But they all know about Yoda, and cringe whenever someone mentions his name, like being related to Larry the Cable Guy or something.

I heard someone float the theory (or reference something from Legends, not sure which) that Yoda talked that way intentionally to make people listen more closely and think about what he was saying.

...yes, because making your sentences intentionally confusing is the BEST way to try and accurately convey the information without any misinterpretation. :P

I'm fine with it actually being a quirk of his understanding of language, but I just kind of find it funny, and wish they would do like what they did with the Mandos in the Clone Wars cartoon, where the representative of their society flat out says to the Jedi, and to the audience "Yeah we're not that stupid bounty hunter jacka$s, and we're not the Space Spartans, despite all of the fanboyism devotion to us being that way from a series of terrible novels!" The guy might as well have just shattered the 4th wall and talked directly at the camera in that scene.

Especially in the middle of a battle...

They fly now?!?!?

That's actually a pretty cool trick with the bikes (which actually look really cool be the way. Sort of like riding a chainsaw).

For this particular joke, one probably would have been enough. I mean, it's not like we haven't seen stormtroopers with jetpacks before.

Disagree.
One observation.

One question.

One acknowledgement.

Works perfectly. This exact timing is what makes it a great joke.
also, have we seen them before?
More importantly, have they?

Depends on what you classify as "seeing them before."

We have seen plenty of jet troopers before and it is no surprise that the First Order would have some as well.
As for them, Finn was in the First Order stormtrooper corp. Whether or not he received cross-training as a jet trooper, he'd probably be at least somewhat familiar with their existence. Poe is more of an unknown on that front, but he'd probably be familiar with jet troopers. C-3PO would have said what he said regardless.

It doesn't particularly bother me, it just seemed a little out of place. Maybe (C-3PO) "They're flying now!" (Finn) "POE! We've got jet troopers!" (Poe) "I've got it, I've got it!"

Which would not have been a joke...

Also, I am wrecking my brain as to when in cannon we have seen flying stormtroopers...

Racking my brain?

Clone Wars, Clone Jump Troopers. Rebels, Imperial Jump Troopers.

Jetpacks are clearly present in the movies, so it's not an unfamiliar concept in general.

So clones and three episodes of Rebels?

I am not trying to be pedantic here but it is hardly weird that these guys would have not seen this.

Finn WAS in the First Order Stormtrooper Corp. "Now" implies a new thing. The jet troopers obviously came out after Finn went AWOL.

I don't think the scene implies that the heroes have never heard of jet packs. It implies they didn't know the First Order Stormtroopers had a jet pack unit.

2 out of 3 of the sources are from the time of the Jedi which is considered legendary in Ep.7-9. The 3rd is still decades ago and they were used by the Empire, which no longer exists.

The movie appearances are also from the Clone Wars and Empire eras.

So yes, "They fly now?" can be a surprising thing. The US (NASA, Airforce) invented a jet pack before most of us were born. If I got pulled over by a cop with a jet pack, I also might be saying, "They fly now?!" (Edit - waiting patiently for inevitable follow-on joke).

I hope the rest of that scene includes a shot of Rey playing defense with a saber while someone else drives. Perhaps having to leap from either of their vehicles to fend off a trooper that hopped on.

I wonder if it's this scene right before her Force leap over the TIE fighter. Like, she disembarks to let the others get away, and then Kylo shows up in his ship and she does the flippy-flip.

I could see that yeah. These are the Advanced Mook Division, that first begins the pursuit sequence. Then Kylo is notified and is enroute. Given she's just standing out in the middle of the sands in that TIE scene, it would make a lot of sense for her to have hopped off to give them a chance to escape. Since she knows Kylo is mostly interested in her, not them.

But I just want to see her standing on the back of those speeder bike thingies, facing away from the way they are running, saber out, reflecting blasts from the pursuing troopers. Maybe using Move to slam their vehicles into the ground at high speed, or slamming the jettroopers into each other or something.

Alone in the case of Mandalorians thousands of years ago. In addition I wonder why in the name of Biss New Order troops now use Harleys instead of vehicles based on repulsorlift technology. But hey, at least we have the decent series The Mandalorian and the Fallen Order game. All hail Filoni, Favreau and respawn. 😁

Because it looks cool? Also, don't forget Kathleen Kennedy - none of anything Star Wars gets done without her approval. She's just as much involved in The Mandalorian as anyone else. πŸ‘

This point of view is highly debatable and the way Lucasfilm handles PR under her leadership is not very lucky. But I will not engage in any discussion about this topic in this forum because experience shows that it can go pretty messy pretty quickly. Everyone is free to like or dislike Disney Star Wars. I am very happy that FFG decided to revolve its line of Star Wars around the OT and a bit Prequels. Nuff said. πŸ˜‰

We finally see the Emperor’s throne... only 6 more days.

So instead you drop highly questionable one liners and try to leave it at that...

Well that is demonstrably untrue. The FFG Star Wars line was planned and started before the Disney acquisition and has actually seen quite an influx of ST alien species and tech throughout the latter books.

Usually I've explained lack of repulsorlifts away in my head due to armor use. If you look at the tracked, legged, and wheeled vehicles in SW, they tend to be more heavily armored suggesting repulsorlift vehicles can't handle the extra weight as much. While the new bike does look quite more hefty then say a scout bike, it's hard to say it doesn't have repulsorlifts due to added armor, because it's a bike. That would be like the crew of a tank having seats on the outside.

Why the flip seat for the jet back soldiers? Why not just fly off instead of flip off? I suppose it would save a little fuel by being launched and it saves the driver of the bike a few scorch marks during take off?
