Here is a Harvard-educated person with an opposite view.

He's a historian, not a pschologist.

Neither is a cardiologist.

Not a doctor though.

I will trust a doctor over a historian when it comes to matters of health anytime.

Trusting a cardiologist to tell you what is psychologically healthy is foolish (and my original statements were in regard to psychology). It's like asking a surgeon if she recommends chemotherapy, ionizing radiation, or surgical excision for dealing with a tumor--you're supposed to get an unbiased answer, but that's unlikely.

The cardiologist was talking about its effects on the heart and blood pressure, which can cause heart failure and other serious ailments.

Well I have nothing to add to that.

Now if we could only find a psychologist recommending patients to spew their hatred then I might entertain the notion.
Thus far we have a historian who says hating isn’t bad (not the same thing) and a doctor recommending against constantly giving in to hatred because it is unhealthy.

Finding healthy and productive outlets for anger and frustration is very much a good thing. Spewing pent up frustration and anger into a public place, directing it at other people isn't often either of those things.

You missed the one where a therapist (PhD-educated) stated that having and expressing a full palette of emotions is a positive thing?

More interesting when talking about fandom are the studies that show that those experiencing love show almost the same brain activity as those experiencing hate except that those experiencing love tends to show less frontal activity than those experiencing hate. IOW, haters tend to be more likely to be utilizing critical thinking than lovers.

Yes I did miss that one. Where is it?

Also you are aware that by now the goal posts have moved beyond the field they were initially on?
No one here argued that expressing a full range of emotions is bad, people argued that having a barrage constantly negative, hateful messages, that have not changed over the laat two years, is. They are right.

Also, I don't personally give a **** if 'haters' are utilizing more critical thinking or whatever.

I don't care.

I don't need to be overtly critical of every little thing I consume. Sometimes I just enjoy them because they make me happy. Which Star Wars does. And so I will.

Thank you. You have proved my point.

I propose we all make like Queen Elsa from Frozen and "Let it go."

This would be funny if mentioning Frozen didn't automatically invoke images of people yelling about all the crap associated with that film in the social spheres, just as bad as Star Wars :P

Yeah, I had some painful flashbacks of Frozen loudly on repeat for interminably long times...

Oh I don't mean the song itself, or the film, I mean the...other stuff, the ancillary crap that people foisted onto it in the social/religious flavor.

Huh. Guess I missed that (AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT).

I've never seen the movie and had no idea anything that amounted to a "fandom" was associated with it.

I was more referring to the religious zealots and anti LGBTQ (one in the same really) who made all kinds of fits about the film and it's "message", and how it was "training children to be gay" and stuff. Since you were suggesting we "let it go" in the context of SW toxicity, I assumed that's what you were referring to. Or more accurately, that's what I was comparing it to in the different entertainment products.

Interesting, but no. I was just proposing we return to a more on-point discussion of our own fandom. A dollop of goodwill, grace, and the benefit of the doubt goes a long way in building a healthy and sustainable community.
